Nach KröyER nährt sich der Anschovis von Würmern und Fischeiern. Nach RiSSO fällt die Laichzeit im Mittelmeer in den April. An den Ostküsten Schleswig-Holsteins wird dieser Fisch zuweilen mit Heringen und Sprotten gefangen. SCHONEFELDE nennt ihn schon (1624) als einen

Wir führen sie an, weil sie von vielen Schriftstellern, welche sie mit der vorigen Art verwechselten, irrthümlich als Bewohner der Ostsee angegeben wird. Aufserhalb der Ostsee ist Syngnathus aciis ebensoweit verbreitet wie Siphonostouia typhle. Im Kattegat ist sie nicht selten beobachtet.
