RM2D8M6Y4–An old engraving showing a giant air compressor used in the Mount Cenis Tunnel or Fréjus Rail Tunnel in the 1860s. It is from a Victorian book of the 1880s. Frenchman Germain Sommeiller (or Sommeilleur – 1815–1871) invented and engineered the compressors at the Italian end of the tunnel. It used the force of gravity with water entering the system (left) to drive air into the cylinder (right) where a constant pressure could be maintained via a hydraulic head. Ten compressors were needed to supply air to the workforce within the tunnel. The tunnel was constructed in14 years, opening in 1871.

Other pictures show other members of the merry band of apes playing in the trees as a pair of orang-utans frolic together one pretends to be doing ballet while another does a mid-air wee. At the end of the day exhausted mum can only try to get some rest as the youngsters continue to swing around above her head. The heart-warming pictures were taken by Singapore photographer C.S. Date: ca. 1504-1447 B.C.. The burial of Ruiu was found in the tomb of her father, Neferkhawet, which was excavated by the Museum's Egyptian Expedition in 1935. Lying against the right side of the head end of Ruiu's coffin was a small basket that contained a wooden box and a metal razor. Inside the box were four scarabs and a cowroid seal-amulet made of steatite, two ebony kohl sticks, and a small metal spoon. Th

RM2CCJJE8–An old engraving of London Bridge c. 1650 depicting the medieval bridge with buildings from end to end. This stone-built medieval arched structure replaced earlier timber bridges. Work began in 1176. It was finished by 1209. It had a drawbridge to allow for the passage of tall ships, plus defensive gatehouses at both ends. By 1358 it had 138 shops on the bridge. The buildings on London Bridge were a major fire hazard. Traitors’ heads were displayed on spikes at the Stone Gateway on the south bank (bottom right). This began in about 1300 and continued until about 1660.
