It’s no secret that Kristen Stewart loves Chanel. And as an ambassador for the maison, she’s been seen in a multitude of creations straight off its runways, from a razor-sharp shorts suit at the Oscars, to haute couture gowns at Cannes. So, it comes as no surprise that Stewart chose to wear Chanel on the opening night of Berlin’s 73rd Film Festival, where she serves as president of the jury. “Chanel has my back and I have theirs; I could call it armor, a second skin,” Stewart tells Vogue of working closely with the brand. “Virginie [Viard] is a treasured collaborator and inspiration. She’s a lover of art and of humanity, it’s clear in the work she produces – it’s cinematic.”

As for the ensemble? Stewart opted to wear a look from the Spring-Summer 2023 haute couture collection, which comprises a white full-length petticoat dress embroidered with deer and foliage motifs, as well as featuring an embellished white organza skirt. “I feel light in it,” she says. “It has the perfect amount of structure and activation. To me, the deers symbolize freedom and tranquillity.” For the rest of the outfit, Stewart balanced out her meticulously detailed dress with a pair of white leather ankle boots that feature black patent toes and a crystal-encrusted bow tie.

When it comes to taking on the prestigious role of president of the jury for the festival, Stewart is taken aback by how different the experience is from what she’s done before. “Talking about film without having the added pressure of ‘promoting’ a film is a rare indulgence,” she says. “Meeting people from different corners of the Earth that have come together to explore the reasons why certain films incite or raise new questions… This is heaven to me.”

What else can we anticipate from Kristen Stewart in the near future? Apart from starring in two upcoming filmsLove Lies Bleeding and Love Me, she’s also making her highly anticipated directorial debut with The Chronology of Water. “I have been preparing for my role as a filmmaker since I can remember,” she says of the new venture. “The privilege to externalize your inner life, to show people something as you see it, so you can hold each other that much closer, is what I have surrendered to – good or bad, I believe it will reflect the truth of a moment in my life.”
