Three Spot Gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus)

Three Spot Gourami Tropical Fish Learn all about the Three Spot Gourami's feeding habits and food types, its behaviour, its origins, its natural habitats, is it male or female, breeding advice and information, suitable tank mates, its sizing and growth range, minimum tank size, water PH and more. Use our fish community creator tool to plan your tank set up and ensure that the Three Spot Gourami is the right fish for your aquarium.

There are three colour forms of this fish available, the three-spot (main picture), gold (left), and opaline (right), although apart from the colouration they are all identical. Mixing these fish into a community can be a little tricky. If kept in large groups (6+) there will be occasional chasing but no damage will be done. When kept singly or in small numbers it is quite common for one fish (normally a male) to become a dominant bully, first chasing other gouramies followed by any other fish. Ideally keep in a mixed community or species only tank with other similar sized gouramies. Provided hiding spots are available, these fish make an excellent aquarium fish being hardy, adaptable and visually pleasing.
