Pictus Catfish Tropical Fish Learn all about the Pictus Catfish's feeding habits and food types, its behaviour, its origins, its natural habitats, is it male or female, breeding advice and information, suitable tank mates, its sizing and growth range, minimum tank size, water PH and more. Use our fish community creator tool to plan your tank set up and ensure that the Pictus Catfish is the right fish for your aquarium.

The Pictus Catfish is an attractive silvery fish with very long whiskers which will actively and constantly scavange the aquarium floor for bits of food. The fish can be kept in singles or in groups, prefferably the latter. Pictus Cats are naturally nocturnal, although many aquarium specimens will often become active during the day, especially in the evening or around feeding time. Although the Pictus Cat only grows to 12cm, a large tank is required to provide ample swimming room. The fish will adapt to a wide range of water conditions but does best in well filtered water and neutral or acidic pH. Do not catch these fish with a net, they have many small spines which will become trapped, causing stress and damage to the fish.
