Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna)

Honey Gourami Tropical Fish Learn all about the Honey Gourami's feeding habits and food types, its behaviour, its origins, its natural habitats, is it male or female, breeding advice and information, suitable tank mates, its sizing and growth range, minimum tank size, water PH and more. Use our fish community creator tool to plan your tank set up and ensure that the Honey Gourami is the right fish for your aquarium.

The Honey Gourami is a peaceful and attractive little fish that can only be properly kept in a community of very peaceful fish, it is timid and easily stressed by boisterous fish. A mature tank with good water quality is recommended, as is varied feeding and plenty of hiding spots amongst plants. A few different colour forms are available, the two fish at the top have natural colouration whilst the fish pictured at the bottom is a red form often described as 'red sunset honey gourami'. The natural form is a brown-yellow colour and is arguably more attractive. When in good condition, males will exhibit a strong dark patch under the throat and a much lighter dorsal fin. Although peaceful, a breeding pair will become territorial over a small area. An excellent aquarium fish for well-planted, very peaceful communities.
