In a blog post, Countryside Veterinary Clinic explained how the 'Puffy Lion Dogs' can be aggressive toward strangers and other dogs if not "socialised properly".

The veterinarians in Howard County, Maryland, added that the Chow Chows are "stubborn, a challenge to train and highly territorial".

This means the clinic said the breed "may need supervision around children".

Trainers have also described the dogs "bullying" nature and added that they may snap at "stray hands".

It comes after Elon Jase Ellis-Joynes, a 12-day-old baby, was mauled to death in April 2021 by a Chow Chow Alsatian cross.

He suffered between 30 and 40 puncture wounds at his family home in Doncaster and later died in hospital.

The dog, named Teddy, was put down.

A boy was also hospitalised in October 2022 after being bitten by a white Chow Chow.

The dog was tied up outside a B&B mini-market in Haverhill, Suffolk.

The boy was bitten on his leg and the injury required medical treatment, SuffolkLive reported.
