Congratulations are in order for the Princess of Wales’s brother, James Middleton, and his ever-elegant wife, Alizee Thevenet, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child.

James took to Instagram earlier this month to reveal the news, with a touching post stating: ‘We couldn’t be more excited… we will end the year with the most precious little addition to our growing family.’ The same week, the couple appeared together at Wimbledon, where Alizee’s baby bump was visible in a chic green broderie anglaise dress by French label Sézane.
James confirmed his engagement in 2019, after almost a year of dating the beautiful financier. He announced the news on Instagram, writing, ‘she said Oui’ – a nod to Alizee’s French heritage. They subsequently tied the knot in 2021 and have since welcomed numerous broods of puppies (Middleton is a self-described ‘Dog Dad’ to more than five spaniels and golden retrievers) and are now set to be joined by a baby of their own.

It took three attempts for the couple to finally tie the knot
Like many engaged couples who had been set to wed in the early days of the pandemic, Mr and Mrs Middleton’s path to the altar was not a smooth one. James married his French partner of three years in an intimate ceremony in the Côte d’Azur village of Bormes-les-Mimosas in September 2021, with guests including the Prince and Princess of Wales (then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge); Middleton’s other sister, Pippa Matthews; and his parents, Michael and Carole Middleton. The bride wore a romantic off-the-shoulder white gown and styled her hair in a half-up, half-down look.

James previously revealed that he and Alizee had been forced to reschedule their nuptials twice in 2020 due to the pandemic. Following their fairytale wedding, he wrote on Instagram: ‘Yesterday I married the love of my life surrounded by family, friends and of course a few dogs in the beautiful village or Bormes-les-Mimosas. Words cannot describe how happy I am.’

Her late father gave the union his seal of approval
The couple met at the private South Kensington Club in 2018, when James’s cocker spaniel, Ella, ran over to Alizee, and were soon said to be ‘very serious’ about each other. Alizee’s late father, retired diplomat Jean-Gabriel Thevenet, confirmed as much at the time, saying: ‘My daughter Alizee is very happy with James, they are very much in love.’ Sadly, he was unable to walk his daughter down the aisle, having died just a few months before the wedding. A source told the MailOnline that it was a ‘real tragedy’, explaining: ‘It was a happy day but sadly Jean-Gabriel was not there. He died five months ago. He was only in his 60s.’ Fortunately, however, ‘his wife Laurence was at the wedding’.

Her unusual name was chosen by her father
Alizee is a derivative of ‘Alize’, a tropical wind. It was chosen by her late father, who was a keen windsurfer. Jean-Gabriel told the MailOnline: ‘My daughter is named after my first love which is windsurfing and the Alize wind that fills the sails.’
She speaks three languages
Born in France, Alizee grew up all over the world, living in Germany, Indonesia, Chile, Belgium and England. As well as her native tongue, she also speaks English and Spanish, making her a trilinguist.

She has a degree in Finance from Brussels University, and an Investment and Finance Masters from Queen Mary University of London, and has worked in the finance sector for much of her career.
