This Design Calculation has been prepared using the latest applicable American
codes and standards and the latest developments in engineering practices. A
competent Structural Engineer prepared the calculation and checked the work.

Computer programs and verified spreadsheets are used for the analysis and design
of the structure. The output of these programs has been incorporated in this
package.

For your easy reference, a table of contents has been provided. The description of
the design codes and material specifications used, loads and design sketches are
also included in the calculation.

Please read this calculation package in conjunction with the drawings provided.
You can resubmit this package with the drawings to other parties involved in this
project for their approval as required, or, keep this package for future reference.

SECTION 05 50 00 - METAL FABRICATIONS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS


A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2 SECTION INCLUDES


A. Design, engineer and furnish all labor, materials, tools and equipment, and perform all
services and operations necessary to execute the work of this section to install all
miscellaneous metal components and accessories, anchors and fastenings and performing
all operations in connection with metal fabrication work.
B. This section establishes requirements for miscellaneous metal fabrication anchors and
supports as required and not detailed elsewhere.
C. Metal fabrication work is defined as including any items shown on the Drawings and/or
specified herein, fabricated from metal shapes, plates, bars, pipes, tubes, casting and roll-
formed shapes which are not specified in any other Section of these Specifications and not
limited to the following:
1. Ladder & safety cages.
2. Trench & Pit Covers.
3. Anchor Bolts and Other Means of Anchorage
4. Shelf angles.
5. Rough Hardware.
6. Lateral Support Units for Masonry Walls
7. Grating
8. Concealed Support Elements (not exposed to weather) and Framing for Items
such as:
a. Countertops and Vanities
9. Miscellaneous framing and supports for various equipment.
10. Sleeves in concrete and CMU.
11. Metal fabrication as indicated on Landscape Drawings and Specification.
D. Delegated Design: Design of metal fabrication including comprehensive engineering
analysis stamped and signed by a Professional Engineer and submit to the Design
Engineer for review and approval.

1.5 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS


A. Loads:
1. The works shall be capable of accommodating the following dead loads without
any reduction in performance:
a. The work’s own dead load shall be accommodating locally without causing
deflections or movements to the support structure and / or interface
elements.
b. The dead loads derived from permanent fixtures or services attached to
the surface of the works.
2. The works shall be capable of accommodating the following live loads without
any reduction in performance.
a. All loads resulting from movements of the building structure and support
structure.
b. Loads applied through maintenance and cleaning operations.
c. Impact loads, or transferred impact loads, that occur during the service life
of the works, without deterioration in performance and without sustaining
non-repairable damage.

d. Loads imposed during replacement.


B. When calculating loads the worst combination shall be considered, taking account of the
fact that the pressure coefficients at various locations may determine more than one design
criterion.
C. Deflections: The maximum allowable deflection of any element of the works, when carrying
full design loads, shall not exceed 3 mm or 1/500 of their clear span in a direction normal
to the plane of that element, whichever is the lesser value.
D. Demount ability:
1. Elements shall be individually and independently removable ensuring access for
maintenance and / or replacement in the event of breakage or damage.
2. The removal of units shall not affect the performance or safety of adjacent or any
other part of the works.

1.6 SUBMITTALS
A. Product data for each product including paint products, and grout.
B. Shop drawings detailing fabrication and erection of each metal fabrication indicated.
Include plans, elevations, sections, and details of metal fabrications and their connections.
Show anchorage and accessory items. Provide templates for anchors and bolts specified
for installation under other Sections.
C. Samples representative of materials and finished products as may be requested by the
Engineer.
D. Calculation: Provide professionally prepared calculation and other information as
requested by the Engineer.
E. Mill Certificates: Signed by manufacturers of stainless-steel sheet certifying that products
furnished comply with requirements.
F. Welding certificates.
G. Qualification Data: For professional engineer

1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE


A. Fabricator Qualifications: Firm experienced in producing metal fabrications similar to those
indicated for this Project with a record of successful in-service performance, and with
sufficient production capacity to produce required units without delaying the Work.
B. Welding Standards: Comply with applicable provisions of AWS D1.1 "Structural Welding
Code-Steel," AWS D1.2 "Structural Welding Code-Aluminum," AWS D1.3 "Structural
Welding Code-Sheet Steel." and AWS D1.6 "Structural Welding Code- Stainless Steel."
C. Mock-ups: Before fabrication construct mock-ups for all elements in a location and of size
as directed by the Engineer to demonstrate aesthetic effects and qualities of materials and
execution.
1. Build Mock-ups to the satisfaction of the Engineer. If the required standard is not
achieved, the Contractor shall replace (at the contractor’s cost) until the required
standard is achieved as judged by the Engineer
2. Obtain written approval of mock-ups from the engineer before starting fabrication.
3. Maintain mock-ups during construction in an undisturbed condition as a standard
for judging the completed Work.
4. Approved mock-ups shall not become part of the completed Work.
5. Remove and cart away mock-ups as and when directed by the Engineer.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS


A. Field Measurements: Check actual locations of walls and other construction to which metal
fabrications must fit by accurate field measurements before fabrication. Show recorded
measurements on final shop drawings. Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction
progress to avoid delaying the Work.

1.9 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate installation of anchorages for metal fabrications. Furnish setting drawings,
templates, and directions for installing anchorages, including sleeves, concrete inserts,
anchor bolts, and items with integral anchors, that are to be embedded in concrete or
masonry. Deliver such items to Project site in time for installation.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 METALS: GENERAL


A. Metal Surfaces, General: For metal fabrications exposed to view in the completed Work,
provide materials selected for their surface flatness, smoothness, and freedom from
surface blemishes. Do not use materials with exposed pitting, seam marks, roller marks,
rolled trade names, or blemishes.

2.2 STEEL
A. Steel Plates, Shapes, and Bars: ASTM A 36/A 36M.
B. Structural Steel Shapes, Plates, and Bars: ASTM A 36, 36 ksi (250MPa.).
C. Structural Steel Shapes, Plates, and Bars: ASTM A 572 Grade 50, 50 ksi (345MPa).
D. Cold-Formed Hollow Structural Sections: ASTM A 500, Grade B 42 ksi (290 MPa) or C
46ksi (315 MPa), structural tubing.
E. Wide flange sections: ASTM A Rolled Steel Floor Plates: ASTM A 786/A 786M.
F. Galvanized steel sheet: ASTM A 653, structural quality, grade 33, with G90 coating.
G. Expanded metal, galvanized: ASTM F1267, Class 2, Grade A.
H. Steel Tubing: Product type (manufacturing method) and as follows:
1. Cold-Formed Steel Tubing: ASTM A 500.
2. Hot-Formed Steel Tubing: ASTM A 501.
a. For exterior installations and where indicated, provide tubing with hot-dip
galvanized coating per ASTM A 53.
I. Steel Pipe: ASTM A 53, standard weight (schedule 40), unless otherwise indicated, or
another weight required by structural loads.
J. Cast-in-Place Anchors in Concrete: Anchors of type indicated below, fabricated from
corrosion-resistant materials capable of sustaining, without failure, the load imposed within
a safety factor of 4, as determined by testing per ASTM E 488, conducted by a qualified
independent testing agency.
K. Welding Rods and Bare Electrodes: Select according to AWS specifications for the metal
alloy to be welded.
L. Diamond / Chequered floor plates: ASTM A-786, medium 4-way pattern, commercial grade.

2.3 STAINLESS STEEL


A. Stainless steel bars and shapes: ASTM A 276, Type 316L.
B. Sheet, strip, plate and flat bars: ASTM A666, Type 316L.

A. General: Provide plated fasteners complying with ASTM B 633, Class Fe/Zn 25 for
electrodeposited zinc coating, for exterior use or where built into exterior walls. Select
fasteners for the type, grade, and class required.

H. Expansion Anchors: Anchor bolt and sleeve assembly with capability to sustain, without
failure, a load equal to 6 times the load imposed when installed in unit masonry and equal
to 4 times the load imposed when installed in concrete as determined by testing per ASTM
E 488 conducted by a qualified independent testing agency.

2.6 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS


A. Welding Rods and Bare Electrodes: Select according to AWS specifications for metal
alloy welded.
B. Shop Primers:
1. Universal Shop Primer: Fast-curing, alkyd-based primer. Basis-of-Design Product:
Pilot QD primer by Jotun or approved equal
2. Zinc-Rich Shop Primer: Complying with SSPC-Paint 20 and compatible with
topcoat. Basis-of-Design Product: Barrier 90 Primer by Jotun or approved equal.
C. Galvanizing Repair Paint: High-zinc-dust-content paint for re-galvanizing welds in steel,
complying with SSPC-Paint 20.
D. Bituminous Paint: Cold-applied asphalt mastic complying with SSPC-Paint 12, except
containing no asbestos fibers.
1. Separate dissimilar metals and metal surfaces in contact with masonry, concrete
or plaster with bituminous paint or preformed dielectric separators, which will
prevent galvanic action.
E. Cementitious Grout: As per Section 03 60 00 “Grouting”.

2.7 FABRICATION, GENERAL


A. Metal work and finishes shall be first class in every aspect and in accordance with trade
practice. Insofar as practicable, fabrication, assembly and fitting of the work shall be
executed in the shop with the various parts of assemblies ready for erection at the field.
Work that cannot be shop assembled shall be given a trial fit at the shop to insure a proper
and expeditious field assembly.

1. In the event that shop-fabricated metal items do not fit the field condition, the item
shall be returned to the shop for correction, including re-galvanizing or priming
where required.
B. Removable members shall be carefully machined and fitted and shall be secured by screws
or bolts of proper size and approved spacing. Structural supports, hangers and build-in
reinforcement wholly concealed within the finishes assemblies shall be as indicated or
required.
C. Shear saw and punch metal accurately, cleanly, and sharply and free of burrs, without
deforming adjacent surfaces or metals. Flame cutting will be permitted only if cut edges are
ground back to clean smooth edges.
D. Ease exposed edges to a radius of approximately 8mm, unless otherwise indicated. Form
bent-metal corners to smallest radius possible without causing grain separation or
otherwise impairing work.
E. Form metal fabrications from materials of size, thickness, and shapes indicated but not less
than that needed to comply with performance requirements indicated. Work to dimensions
indicated or accepted on shop drawings, using proven details of fabrication and support.
Use type of materials indicated or specified for various components of each metal
fabrication. Form exposed work true to line and level with accurate angles and surfaces
and straight sharp edges.
F. Shear and punch metals cleanly and accurately. Remove burrs and ease exposed edges
to a radius of approximately 1 mm, unless otherwise indicated.
G. Form bent-metal corners to smallest radius possible without causing grain separation or
otherwise impairing work.
H. Weld corners and seams continuously to comply with the following:
1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and
corrosion resistance of base metals.
2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap.
3. Remove welding flux immediately.
4. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended
so that no roughness shows after finishing, and contour of welded surface matches
those adjacent.
I. Form exposed connections with hairline joints, flush and smooth, using concealed
fasteners wherever possible. Use exposed fasteners of type indicated or, if not indicated,
Phillips flat-head (countersunk) screws or bolts. Locate joints where least conspicuous.
J. Fabricate joints that will be exposed to weather in a manner to exclude water, or provide
weep holes where water may accumulate.
K. Cut, reinforce, drill, and tap metal fabrications as indicated to receive finish hardware,
screws, and similar items.
L. Provide for anchorage of type indicated; co-ordinate with supporting structure. Fabricate
and space anchoring devices to secure metal fabrications rigidly in place and to support
indicated loads.

2.8 LADDERS & SAFETY CAGES


A. General: Fabricate mild steel ladders for the locations shown, with dimensions, spacing,
details, and anchorages as indicated. Provide safety cage as indicated on drawings.
1. Comply with ANSI A14.3 requirements for ladders and safety cages.
2. For elevator pit ladders, comply with ASME A17.1.

B. Provide non-slip surfaces on top of each rung by coating with abrasive material metallically
bonded to the rung by a proprietary process.
C. Ladder and cage within the Villa shall be shop primed with Alkyd Primer, DFT not less than
75 microns and painted as per Section 09 91 00.
D. Ladder and cage outside the Villa shall be shop primed with Zinc Rich Primer, DFT not less
than 75 microns and painted as per Section 09 91 00.

2.9 TRENCH AND PIT COVERS


A. Fabricate chequered floor plates from rolled-steel floor plate complying with ASTM A786 of
8-mm minimum thickness.
B. Provide traffic rated covers.
C. Include steel angel stiffeners and fixed and removable sections. Provide flush steel bar
drop handles for lifting removable sections, one at each end of each section.
D. Flooring plates and frames shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, Grade 60
(425g/m2)

2.10 STEEL WELD PLATES AND ANGLES


A. Provide mild steel weld plates and angles not specified in other Sections, for items
supported from concrete construction as needed to complete the Work. Provide each unit
with not less than two integrally welded steel strap anchors for embedding in concrete.
B. Shop primed with Zinc Rich Primer, DFT not less than 75 microns.
C. Steel angles for expansion joint shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, Grade 45
(320g/m2)

2.11 SHELF ANGLES


A. Fabricate shelf angles from steel angles of sizes required and for attachment to concrete
framing. Provide horizontally slotted holes to receive 20-mm bolts, spaced not more than
150 mm from ends and 600 mm o.c., unless otherwise indicated.
B. Furnish wedge-type concrete inserts, complete with fasteners, to attach shelf angles to
cast-in-place concrete
C. Shelf angles shall be hot-dip galvanize after fabrication, Grade 45 (320g/m2).

2.10 MISCELLANEOUS FRAMING AND SUPPORTS


A. General: Provide steel framing and supports not specified in other Sections as needed to
complete the Work.
B. Fabricate units from steel shapes, plates, and bars of welded construction, unless
otherwise indicated. Fabricate to sizes, shapes, and profiles indicated and as necessary to
receive adjacent construction retained by framing and supports. Cut, drill, and tap units to
receive hardware, hangers, and similar items.
1. Fabricate units from slotted channel framing where indicated.
2. Furnish inserts if units are installed after concrete is placed.
C. All framing and supports within the building envelope (not exposed to weather) and are
concealed or not exposed to view, shall be shop primed with Zinc Rich Primer, DFT not
less than 75 microns.
D. All framing and supports within the building envelope (not exposed to weather) and are
exposed to view, shall be shop primed with Zinc Rich Primer, DFT not less than 75 microns
and painted (as per Section 09 9100).

E. Framing and supports outside the building envelope (exposed to weather) and are
concealed or not exposed to view, shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, Grade 45
(320g/m2).
F. Framing and supports outside the building envelope (exposed to weather) and are exposed
to view, shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, Grade 45 (320g/m2) and painted (as
per Section 09 9100).

2.12 GRATINGS
A. Fabricate gratings as per details on drawing. The design and shop drawings for the framing
shall be submitted for review and approval.
B. Grating within the building envelope shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, Grade 60
(425g/m2)
C. Grating outside the building envelope shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication with zinc
mass of 1000g/m2.
1. Framing, supports and guard rail shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication
320g/m2 and painted as per Section 09 9100.
2. Guard railing to comply with the requirements of ASTM E894 and ASTM E935.

2.13 ROUGH HARDWARE


A. Furnish bent, or otherwise custom-fabricated, bolts, plates, anchors, hangers, dowels, and
other miscellaneous steel and iron shapes as required for framing and supporting
woodwork, and for anchoring or securing woodwork to concrete or other structures.
B. Fabricate items to sizes, shapes, and dimensions required. Furnish malleable-iron washers
for heads and nuts that bear on wood structural connections, and furnish steel washers
elsewhere.

2.14 SUSPENDED AHU HOUSING


A. Steel purlins hung from slab above, corrugated metal deck with concrete fill as detailed on
drawings.
B. Load criteria: Refer Structural drawings.

2.15 STEEL AND IRON FINISHES


A. Galvanizing: For those items indicated for galvanizing, apply zinc coating by the hot-dip
process complying with the following requirements:
1. ASTM A 123 for galvanizing both fabricated iron and steel products made of
uncoated rolled, pressed, and forged shapes, plates, bars, and strip 0.76 mm thick
or thicker.
2. ASTM A 153/A 153 M for galvanizing iron and steel hardware.
B. Preparation for Shop Priming: Prepare uncoated ferrous metal surfaces to comply with
minimum requirements indicated below for SSPC surface preparation specifications and
environmental exposure conditions of installed metal fabrications:
1. Exteriors (SSPC Zone 1B): SSPC-SP 6 "Commercial Blast Cleaning."
2. Interiors (SSPC Zone 1A): SSPC-SP 3 "Power Tool Cleaning."
C. No material shall be shipped or delivered until the shop coat has dried. Shop paint all metal
except the following:
1. Galvanized and stainless steel.
2. Surfaces and edges to be field welded.

2.16 PAINT
A. Comply with the requirements of Section 09 91 00 “Painting”.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 PREPARATION
A. Verify measurements and dimensions at the job site and cooperate in the coordination and
scheduling of the work of this Section with the work of related trades, with particular
attention given to the installation of items embedded in concrete and masonry so as not to
delay job progress
B. Provide templates as required to related trade for location of support and anchorage items.
C. Set sleeves in concrete with tops flush with finish surface elevations. Protect sleeves from
water and concrete entry.

3.2 INSTALLATION, GENERAL


A. Cutting, Fitting, and Placement: Perform cutting, drilling, and fitting required for installing
miscellaneous metal fabrications. Set metal fabrication accurately in location, alignment,
and elevation; with edges and surfaces level, plumb, true, and free of rack; and measured
from established lines and levels.
B. Fit exposed connections accurately together to form hairline joints. Weld connections that
are not to be left as exposed joints but cannot be shop-welded because of shipping size
limitations. Do not weld, cut, or abrade the surfaces of exterior units that have been hot-
dip galvanized after fabrication and are intended for bolted or screwed field connections.
C. Field Welding: Unless otherwise indicated, joints shall be as strong as rigid as adjoining
sections. Welding shall be continuous along entire line of contact, except where spot
welding is indicted or permitted. Where exposed, welds shall be ground smooth. Where
bolted or riveted connections are indicated, such connections may be welded subject to
Engineer’s approval. Comply with the following requirements:
1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and
corrosion resistance of base metals.
2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap.
3. Remove welding flux immediately.
4. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended
so that no roughness shows after finishing, and contour of welded surface matches
those adjacent.
D. Fastening to In-Place Construction: Provide anchorage devices and fasteners where
necessary for securing miscellaneous metal fabrications to in-place construction. Include
threaded fasteners for concrete and masonry inserts, toggle bolts, through-bolts, lag bolts,
wood screws, and other connectors as required.
E. Provide temporary bracing or anchors in formwork for items that are to be built into concrete
masonry or similar construction.
F. Corrosion Protection: Coat concealed surfaces of aluminum that will come into contact with
grout, concrete, masonry, wood, or dissimilar metals with a heavy coat of bituminous paint.

3.3 INSTALLING MISCELLANEOUS FRAMING AND SUPPORTS


A. General: Install framing and supports to comply with requirements of items being
supported, including manufacturers' written instructions and requirements indicated on
Shop Drawings.

3.4 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING


A. Touchup Painting: Immediately after erection, clean field welds, bolted connections, and
abraded areas. Paint uncoated and abraded areas with the same material as used for shop
primer to comply with SSPC-PA 1 for touching up shop-painted surfaces
B. Repair damaged galvanized coatings on galvanized items with galvanized repair paint
according to ASTM A 780 and manufacturer’s written instructions.
C. Painting: As specified in Section 09 9100 “Painting”.
D. For galvanized surfaces, clean welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas, and apply
galvanizing repair paint to comply with ASTM A 780.

1.5 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS


A. A. Make thorough examination of drawings, details and schedules, determine the intent,
extent, materials, types of surfaces, locations and be fully cognizant of requirements.
B. Examine the specifications and drawings for the work of other Sections regarding the
provisions for prime and finish coats. Paint or finish all materials installed throughout the
project which are required to be painted, and which are left unfinished or unpainted by other
Sections.
C. Provide finishes free of defects in materials and workmanship affecting appearance and
performance. Defects shall include, but not limited to, improper cleaning and preparation
of surfaces, entrapped dust and dirt, blisters, peeling, drips, runs, uneven coverage,
misses, poor cutting in, improper use or application of materials.
D. Visual Requirements
1. For the purpose of conforming to visual requirements, the work shall be viewed
with normal eyesight from a distance of 2m for color consistency and excessive
fading and 1m for cracking, pitting and other defects.
2. Visual requirements shall be based upon samples submitted and agreed.

1.6 DEFINITIONS
A. Sheen: Degree of luster of the dried paint film. Where terms such as "gloss," "semigloss,"
"low-gloss," "matte," "satin," "eggshell," or "flat," are used, it shall be subject to the
Engineer's interpretation, regardless of manufacturer's nomenclature for any particular
sheen level. The Engineer reserves the right to select from any of manufacturer's published
sheen levels for each paint system, if sheen of initial paint finish sample is not approved.

1.7 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For each paint system indicated. Include block fillers and primers.
B. Method Statement for each type of paint system.
C. Samples for Verification: For each color and material to be applied, with texture to
simulate actual conditions, on representative Samples of the actual substrate.
1. Provide stepped Samples, defining each separate coat, including block fillers and
primers. Use representative colors when preparing Samples for review. Resubmit
until required sheen, color, and texture are achieved.
2. Provide a list of materials and applications for each coat of each Sample. Label
each Sample for location and application.
a. Concrete: Provide two 200 x 200mm samples for each color and finish.

b. Concrete Unit Masonry: 200 x 200mm samples of masonry, with mortar


joint in the center, for each finish and color.
c. GRC: Provide two 200 x 200mm samples for each color and finish.
d. Plastered Finish: 200 x 200 samples for each color and finish.
e. Natural Wood: 100 x 200mm samples of natural wood finish on
representative surfaces.
f. Painted Wood: 200 x 200mm samples for each color and material.
g. Ferrous Metal: Two 100mm square samples of flat metal and two 200mm
long samples of solid metal for each color and finish.
h. Gypsum Board: Provide two 200 x 200mm samples for each color and
finish.
D. Submit Third Party Test Certificate that paint material does not contain any Lead or Heavy
Metals.
F. Submit a detailed "Painting Schedule" for review. Prepare this schedule on the basis of
surfaces, types of paint materials, types of primers and sealers, number of coats and list
the brand name of the products/manufacture for each use.

1.8 TESTING
A. Substrate pH testing: Before installation,
1. Do not apply paint and coatings to cementitious substrates where the pH > 10.
2. Arrange and pay for on-site pH testing of concrete and cementitious substrates
before commencing application of paint and coatings, by a registered testing
laboratory.
3. Carry out suitable procedures to lower the surface pH where required.
4. Do not apply acids or other compounds which may be harmful to concrete and
cementitious substrates.
5. The frequency or rate of testing shall be not less than three random locations as
directed by the Engineer.
B. Adhesion testing (Coatings): After installation,
1. Arrange and pay for on-site adhesion testing of applied coatings by a registered
testing laboratory in accordance with the relevant Standards and individual system
requirements as per this specification. Rectify non-complying work and re-test.
2. The frequency or rate of testing shall be not less than three random locations as
directed by the Engineer.
C. Dry film thickness testing (Coatings): After installation,
1. Arrange and pay for on-site dry film thickness (DFT) testing of applied coatings by
a registered testing laboratory in accordance with the relevant Standards and
individual system requirements as per this specification.
2. The frequency or rate of testing shall be not less than three random locations as
directed by the Engineer.

1.9 QUALITY ASSURANCE


A. Applicator Qualifications: A firm or individual experienced in applying paints and coatings
similar in material, design and extent to those indicated for this Project, whose work has
resulted in applications with a record of successful in-service performance.

B. Source Limitations: Obtain block fillers and primers for each coating system from the same
manufacturer as the finish coats.
C. Provide a full-coat benchmark finish sample for each type of coating and substrate
required.
D. Arrange with the paint manufacturer's representative to visit the site prior to the
commencement of the painting operation to discuss the painting and finishing procedures
to be used and to analyze the surface conditions in order that alternative recommendations
may be made to the Engineer, should adverse conditions exist.
E. Arrange with the paint manufacturer to visit the site at intervals during the surface
preparation and painting operations to ensure that the proper surface preparation has been
completed, the specified paint products are being used, the proper number of coats are
being applied, the agreed finishing procedures are being used and that the paint
manufacturer regularly submits written reports to the Engineer.
F. Apply samples of finishes in the testing area in the presence of the Engineer, Contractor
and paint manufacturer. Apply the samples with the correct material, number of coats,
colour, texture and degree of gloss required. Refinish if required, until acceptance of the
Engineer is obtained.
G. Leave test areas undisturbed until completion of the work. Accepted work in the test area
shall serve as a standard for similar work throughout the Project. Work which does not
match the accepted finishes shall be corrected and refinished at no expense to the
Employer.

1.10 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS


A. Conform to local Building Code and local jurisdictional authorities for flame/fuel/smoke
rating requirements for finishes.

1.11 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING


A. Accept products on site in sealed and labelled containers and undamaged condition.
B. Deliver materials to Project site in manufacturer's original, unopened packages and
containers bearing manufacturer's name and label and the following information:
1. Product name or title of material.
2. Product description (generic classification or binder type).
3. Manufacturer's stock number and date of manufacture.
4. Contents by volume, for pigment and vehicle constituents.
5. Thinning instructions.
6. Application instructions.
7. Color name and number.
8. VOC content.
C. Store paint materials at suitable temperature in well ventilated area.
D. Take precautionary measures to prevent fire hazards and spontaneous combustion.
E. Store materials in a single place as directed by the Engineer. Keep storage area clean and
tidy.
F. Accept only paint and finishing materials and products delivered to the site in the
manufacturer's unbroken, sealed containers, with manufacturer's label indicating type of
paint, colour and instructions for reducing.

1.12 EXTRA MATERIAL


A. Submit, to be used as extra stock, 5%, but not less than 3.8 L or 1 case, as appropriate,
of each paint colour.
B. Extra stock materials to be from same production run as installed materials.

1.13 PROTECTION OF SURROUNDING ELEMENTS


A. Protect elements surrounding this work from damage.

1.14 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS


A. Provide continuous ventilation and A/C facilities to maintain suitable surface and ambient
temperatures for 24 hours before, during and 48 hours after application of finishes.
B. Provide adequate lighting for surfaces to be finished.

1.15 PROJECT CONDITIONS (GENERAL)


A. Apply waterborne paints only when temperatures of surfaces to be painted and
surrounding air are between 10 and 32 deg C.
B. Apply solvent thinned paints only when temperatures of surfaces to be painted and
surrounding air are between 7 and 35 deg C.
C. Do not apply paint in rain, fog, or mist; or when relative humidity exceeds 85 percent; or at
temperatures less than 3 deg C above the dew point or to damp or wet surfaces.
1. Painting may continue during inclement weather if surfaces and areas to be
painted are enclosed and within temperature limits specified by manufacturer
during application and drying periods.
D. Interior Painting
1. Provide continuous ventilation during and after application of paint. Run ventilation
system 24 hours per day during installation. Provide continuous ventilation for 4
days after completion of application of paint.
2. Apply paint finishes only when temperature at location of installation can be
satisfactorily maintained within manufacturer's recommendations.
3. Substrate and ambient temperature must be within limits prescribed by
manufacturer to the approval of the Engineer.
4. Apply paint finish only in areas where dust is no longer being generated by related
construction operations such that airborne particles will not affect the quality of the
finished surface.
5. Apply paint only when surface to be painted is dry, properly cured and adequately
prepared.
E. Exterior Painting
1. Apply paint finishes only when conditions forecast for entire period of application
fall within manufacturer’s recommendations.
2. Where surface to be painted is not under cover, do not apply paint when:
a. Substrate and ambient temperature are expected to fall outside limits
prescribed by manufacturer.

b. Temperature of surface is over 50C unless paint is specifically formulated


for application at high temperatures
c. Rain or sand storms are forecast to occur before paint has thoroughly
cured; it is foggy, misty, raining at site; relative humidity is above 85%
d. Surface to be painted is wet, clamp or frosted.
e. Previous coat is not dry.
3. Apply paint finish only when dust is no longer being generated by related
construction operations or when wind conditions are such that airborne particles
will not affect the quality of the finished surface.
4. Schedule painting operations such that surfaces exposed to direct intense sunlight
are scheduled for completion during early morning.
5. Remove paint from areas which have been exposed to excess humidity, rain or
condensation. Prepare surface again and repaint.
6. Painting of occupied facilities to be carried out in accordance with approved
schedule only. Schedule operations to approval of the Engineer such that painted
surfaces will have clued and cured sufficiently before occupants are affected.

1.16 TEMPORARY COVERS AND PROTECTION


A. Protect floors and other surfaces with temporary covers such as dust sheets, polyethylene
film or tarpaulins.
B. Mask identification plates occurring on equipment, switch boxes, etc. which require
painting.
C. Protect, remove and replace hardware, accessories, lighting fixtures and similar items as
required except primed for paint door closers which shall be painted.
D. Keep oily rags, waste and other similar combustible materials in closed metal containers;
take every precaution to avoid spontaneous combustion, remove waste and combustible
rubbish daily.

1.17 SIGNS
A. Provide legible signs throughout the work reading 'WET PAINT' in Arabic and English, in
prominent positions during painting and while paint is drying.
B. Use 75 mm high letters/characters on white card or board.

1.18 RETOUCHING
A. Do retouching to ensure that the building may be handed over in perfect condition, free of
spatter, finger prints, rust, watermarks, scratches, blemishes or other disfiguration.
B. After fully decorating and retouching a room or other area, notify the Engineer.
C. After inspection and final acceptance by the Engineer, post sign:
1. 'DECORATING COMPLETE - NO ADMITTANCE WITHOUT PERMISSION' in
Arabic and English

1.19 WARRANTIES AND GUARANTIES


A. Based on the routine inspection at a time of completion of the painting works main
Contractor must submit a product performance guarantee from the paint manufacturer
along with a separate guarantee from the painting sub-contractor for paint application.
These guaranties will be for the period of one year for interior painting works and five years
for exterior painting works.

PART 2 - RODUCTS

2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS


A. The painting materials shall be obtained from approved manufacturer and shall be supplied
ready mixed in the manufacturer's sealed and branded containers. Each container shall
bear the maker's brand name, identification of contents and directions for its proper use.
All material must be thoroughly stirred before use.
B. All sealers, primers, undercoats and thinners shall be the products recommended by the
manufacturer of paint used for the finishing coat.
C. Unless otherwise indicated on the drawings colours shall be selected by the Engineer.
D. 100mm high Skirting epoxy paint wherever required according to SOF shall be similar to
floor finish or as directed by Engineer.

2.2 PAINT MATERIALS, GENERAL


A. Material Compatibility: Provide block fillers, primers, and finish-coat materials that are
compatible with one another and with the substrates indicated under conditions of service
and application, as demonstrated by manufacturer based on testing and field experience.
B. Chemical Components of Field-Applied Interior Paints and Coatings: Provide products that
comply with the following limits for VOC content, exclusive of colorants added to a tint base,
when calculated according to 40 CFR 59, Subpart D (EPA Method 24) and the following
chemical restrictions; these requirements do not apply to primers or finishes that are
applied in a fabrication or finishing shop:
1. Flat Paints and Coatings: VOC content of not more than 50 g/L.
2. Nonflat Paints and Coatings: VOC content of not more than 150 g/L.
3. Varnishes and Sanding Sealers: VOC not more than 350 g/L.
4. Stains: VOC not more than 250 g/L.
5. Aromatic Compounds: Paints and coatings shall not contain more than 1.0 percent
by weight of total aromatic compounds (hydrocarbon compounds containing one
or more benzene rings).
6. Restricted Components: Paints and coatings shall not contain any of the
following:
a. Acrolein.
b. Acrylonitrile.
c. Antimony.
d. Benzene.
e. Butyl benzyl phthalate.
f. Cadmium.
g. Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate.
h. Di-n-butyl phthalate.
i. Di-n-octyl phthalate.
j. 1,2-dichlorobenzene.
k. Diethyl phthalate.
l. Dimethyl phthalate.
m. Ethylbenzene.

C. Material Quality: Provide manufacturer's best-quality paint material of the various coating
types specified that are factory formulated and recommended by manufacturer for
application indicated. Paint-material containers not displaying manufacturer's product
identification will not be acceptable.
D. Colours: Match Engineer’s sample.
E. Mordant Solution; Mordant solution shall be of approved manufacture.
F. Rust Inhibitors; Rust inhibitors shall be of approved manufacture.
G. Knotting; Knotting shall comply with B.S. 1336.
H. Stopping;
1. Stopping for woodwork to receive clear finish shall be tinted to match surrounding
woodwork, to approval.
2. Stopping for internal woodwork, plywood, hardboard, and fibreboard shall be
linseed oil putty to B.S. 544, tinted to match the colour of the Engineer.
3. Stopping for external woodwork shall be white lead paste and gold size well
mixed.
I. Thinners; Thinners shall be approved turpentine or white spirit to B.S.245.
J. Stain; Stain for woodwork shall be an approved brand of oil stain.
K. Polyurethane Lacquer; Polyurethane lacquer for woodwork shall be of an approved
manufacturer.
L. Varnish; Varnish for interior woodwork shall be an approved brand, oil varnish. Varnish
shall form a hard flexible transparent and quick drying film.
M. Linseed Oil; Linseed oil for woodwork shall be refined linseed oil to comply with B.S. 242.
N. Priming Paints; Priming paints shall be the primer recommended by the manufacturer of
the finishing paint or:
1. For woodwork - lead-based or priming paint to comply with B.S. 2521 and 2523.
2. For steel work - red oxide priming paint to comply with B.S. 2524.
3. For galvanized, zinc paint.
4. For concrete, blockwork, plaster, plasterboard and the like - alkali resisting
priming paint.
O. Undercoating; Undercoating shall be:

1. Synthetic alkyd based undercoating in accordance with the recommendations of


the painting manufacturer.
P. Finishing Paints; finishing paints shall be in accordance with SOF.
1. Water based paints.
2. Industrial paint.

2.3 MIXING
A. Ensure that paint has not settled caked or thickened in the container, is readily dispersed
with a paddle to a smooth consistency and has excellent application properties.
B. Use all reducing and tinting materials as recommended by the manufacturer for the
particular material reduced or tinted.
C. Mix materials thoroughly before application.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL
A. All work shall be performed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
B. Before application of any paint or finish, all surfaces shall be cleaned, dried and prepared
as specified hereinafter.
C. The Contractor shall coordinate work to ensure that factory primed items are primed or
painted as required in the Specifications.
D. All metal fittings such as hardware and fastenings, etc., not required to be painted shall
first be fitted and then removed before the preparatory processes are commenced. When
all painting is completed, fittings shall be cleaned and refixed in position.
E. Before painting, floors must be washed and every possible precaution shall be taken to
keep down dust before and during the painting processes. No paint shall be applied to
surfaces structurally or superficially damp and all surfaces must be ascertained to be free
from condensation, efflorescence, etc., before the application of each coat.
F. No exterior or exposed painting shall be carried out under adverse weather conditions such
as rain, extreme humidity, dust storms, high temperature of surface etc.,
G. All coats of paint must be thoroughly dry before subsequent coats are applied, and rubbed
down with fine waterproof abrasive where necessary.
H. All coating shall be well applied, leaving no sags, laps, brush or other defects. Each coat
must be thoroughly dry before next coat is applied. All work must be carefully cut into a
true line and left smooth and clean.
I. Details of mixing and application shall be in accordance with the specifications of the
manufacturer concerned and to the approval of the Engineer. The mixing of paint, etc., of
different brands before or during application will not be permitted. No dilution of painting
materials shall be allowed except strictly as detailed by the manufacturers and as approved
by the Engineer.
J. On surfaces, which are not accessible to paint brushes, paint shall be applied by spraying
or with sheep skin daubers. All surfaces to be painted shall be thoroughly covered with
paint.
K. Brushes, pails, kettles and all other tools and equipment used in carrying out the work shall
be maintained in good working order, and shall be clean and free from foreign matter. They
shall be thoroughly cleaned before being used for different types of classes of materials.

L. The Contractor will be required to repaint, at his own expense any work on which the paint
is found to be incorrectly applied. The Contractor shall be responsible for protecting from
damage the paint work and all other work during and after operations including the
provision of all necessary dust sheets, covers, etc. All paint droppings shall be cleaned up
as the work proceeds.
M. All loose and defective paint shall be removed from previously painted surfaces before
repainting. All burning off must be done by skilled workmen. The blow-lamp must not be
used on surface adjoining glass.

3.2 PAINTING TO CONCRETE, BLOCKWORK OR PLASTER


A. Concrete, blockwork and plaster surfaces to be painted or decorated shall have all cracks
cut out and make good to the satisfaction of the Engineer. Plasterboard surfaces shall have
taped joints and the surface puttied to the satisfaction of the Engineer and brushed free of
impurities immediately prior to the commencement of the painting work.
B. Efflorescence shall be completely removed by rubbing down with dry coarse cloths
followed by wiping down with damp cloths and allowed to dry. All surfaces shall be rubbed
down with fine glass paper and brushed free of dust before applying any form of decoration.
C. Concrete blockwork and plastered surfaces which are to receive paint shall be given one
thin coat of oil putty and allowed to dry for at least two days. The surfaces shall then be
rubbed down with fine glass paper and given a second thin coat of oil putty and when
completely set shall be rubbed down again with fine glass paper before applying the
priming coat of paint.
D. Emulsion paint shall be applied by brush or roller and shall consist of a primer coat and
three coats of interior quality paint internally and a primer coat and three coats of exterior
quality paint externally.
E. Oil paint shall be applied by brush or roller and shall consist of a priming coat, two
undercoats and one finishing coat of paint.
F. Fire resistant paint shall be applied in three coats over a primer all in strict accordance with
the manufacturer's instructions.

3.3 LACQUER TO WOODWORK


A. Woodwork to be lacquered shall be cleaned of impurities.
B. Knots shall be treated with two coats of knotting.
C. Where shown on the drawings or required by the Engineer the wood shall be stained with
a water or spirit stain to the approval of the Engineer.
D. Lacquer shall be applied as detailed in Joinery Section.

3.4 OIL STAIN FINISH TO WOOD WORK


A. The stain finish to woodwork shall be an approved manufacturer's oil stain system applied
strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
B. All surfaces are to be thoroughly dry and cleaned and sanded down and all nail holes or
similar defects shall be filled and levelled up with approved stopping.
C. The finish shall be applied in two coats. The first coat shall be pigmented stain wax brush
applied. The surface shall be allowed to dry for 2-10 minutes and then rubbed with a cloth
in a rotary motion to remove excess stain and produce an even surface.
D. The first coat shall be allowed to dry completely before application of the second coat.
E. The second coat shall be natural (clear) stain wax, buffed.

F. The Engineer shall select the stain colour and the Contractor shall allow for preparing
sample panels for approval and these sample panels will provide the standard for the work.

3.5 VARNISHING
A. All surfaces to be varnished shall thoroughly dry and cleaned and sanded down and all nail
holes or similar defects shall be filled and levelled up with approved hard stopping. Sanding
shall follow the line of the grain. Knots shall be treated with two coats of knotting.
B. Two or three coats of clear varnish shall be applied as recommended by the manufacturer
of the varnish or as directed by the Engineer.

3.6 PAINTING TO WOOD WORK


A. Woodwork to be painted shall be cleaned of impurities. Knots shall be treated with two
coats of knotting.
B. Priming paint shall be applied by brush. Two coats shall be applied to end grain. Priming
paint shall be applied on site after the Engineer has approval the joinery and before it is
fixed.
C. When the priming paint is dry, all cracks, holes, open joints and the like shall be filled with
stopping and rubbed down with fine glass paper.
D. Two undercoats and one finishing coat of paint shall be applied by brush.
E. The priming paint and undercoats shall be lightly rubbed down with glass paper to remove
blemishes, and all dust removed before the application of subsequent coats.

3.7 PAINTING TO METAL WORK


A. Steelwork delivered to the site unprimed shall be cleaned of impurities, scrapped and wire
brushed to remove rust and painted with one coat of priming paint applied by brush.
B. Steelwork delivered to the site primed shall be cleaned of impurities and damage to the
priming paint and made good with priming paint.
C. Galvanized metalwork to be painted shall be cleaned of impurities. Where rusting has
occurred the rust shall be removed by wire brushing and made good with an approved rust
inhibitor. The surfaces shall be coated with a mordant solution, washed with clean water
and painted with two coats of priming paint applied by brush.
D. Metalwork which is concealed shall be prepared and primed as above and shall be painted
with two undercoats and one finishing coat of paint applied by brush.

3.8 CLEANING
A. Cleanup: At the end of each workday, remove empty cans, rags, rubbish, and other
discarded paint materials from Project site.
B. After completing painting, clean glass and paint-spattered surfaces. Remove spattered
paint by washing and scraping without scratching or damaging adjacent finished surfaces.

3.9 PROTECTION
A. Protect work of other trades, whether being painted or not, against damage from painting.
Correct damage by cleaning, repairing or replacing, and repainting, as approved by
Engineer.
B. Provide "Wet Paint" signs to protect newly painted finishes. After completing painting
operations, remove temporary protective wrappings provided by others to protect their

work. After work of other trades is complete, touch up and restore damaged or defaced
painted surfaces.

3.10 INTERIOR PAINT SCHEDULE


A. PT-01 thru PT-08 and CG-01 except PT02 & PT03: Provide the following paint systems
over interior Block or Cast-in place Concrete and plastered surfaces, gypsum board (no
putty and sanding required for gypsum board):
- 1 coat of primer based on special, high quality, alkali resistant acrylic binder (Solids %
by volume > 25, VOC max 30 gms/ltr, DFT> 31 microns)
- 2 separate coats of Stucco (Solids % by volume > 50, VOC max 30 gms/ltr when
measured as per ISO EU, DFT> 100 microns).
- Sanding and cleaning
- 2 coats of high quality acrylic co-polymer emulsion paint matt finish with outstanding
wash ability (Scrub Resistance EN ISO 11998 : 5,000 Scrubs, Solids % by volume >
40, VOC max 30 gms/ltr, DFT for each coat 50 microns) Color: As per Volume 2.5
Booklet (Cut Sheets).

B. PT-02 and CG-02: Provide the following paint systems over interior Block or Cast-in place
Concrete and plastered surfaces, gypsum board (no putty and sanding required for gypsum
board):
- 1 coat of primer based on special, high quality, alkali resistant acrylic binder (Solids %
by volume > 25, VOC max 30 gms/ltr when measured as per ISO 11890 EU, DFT>
31 microns)
- 2 separate coats of Stucco (Solids % by volume > 50, VOC max 30 gms/ltr when
measured as per ISO EU, DFT> 100 microns).
- Sanding and cleaning
- Two separate coats of 100% pure acrylic based emulsion paint Matt finish, highly
washable emulsion , Anti-Fungal & Anti-Microbial (Bacteria) with anti-stain (Solids %
by volume > 40, VOC max 30 gms/ltr, Dry film Thickness: Not less than 40 microns,
Scrub Resistance EN ISO 11998 : 20,000 Scrubs, Crack bridgeable up to 1.7mm).
Color: As per Volume 2.5 Booklet (Cut Sheets).

C. PT-03: Provide the following Anti-Fungal & Anti-Microbial (Bacteria) paint systems above
false ceiling over interior Block or Cast-in place Concrete and plastered surfaces, gypsum
board (no putty and sanding required for gypsum board):
- 1 coat of high quality acrylic co-polymer emulsion paint with active silver formulation
to resist fungus growth (Solids % by volume > 40, VOC max 30 gms/ltr) Anti-Fungal:
Resistant as per ASTM D 5590
- The surface preparation, application rates and methods of application shall be strictly
in accordance with the written instructions of the manufacturer.
- The colour and texture shall be as indicated on drawings or as directed by the
Engineer.

3.11 EXTERIOR PAINT SCHEDULE


A. EF-P & EF-PP (Smooth Texture): Provide the following paint systems over exterior
concrete and Block exterior plastered surfaces:
1. One coat of an acrylic co-polymer water-based alkali resistant primer (Solids % by
volume > 35, Dry film Thickness: Not less than 35 microns, VOC max 30 gms/ltr).
2. One intermediate Coat based on acrylic co-polymer emulsion for providing texture

INSTALLATION GUIDE
1. Dril l a hole of required diameter and depth.
2. Remove debris and thoroughly clean hole with brush and pump.
3. Insert anchor through fixture into hole and tap until req uired installation depth is achieved.
4. Tighten to the recommended torque.

Bonded Anchors

Product information
1. Drill hole to the required diameter and depth for stud size being used.
2. Solid substrates: clean the drill hole thoroughly with brush and hand pump at least four times before installation.
3. Insert cartridge into gun and attach nozzle.
4. Dispense to waste until even colour is obtained.
5. Insert the mixer nozzle to the bottom of the drill hole and inject resin, slowly withdrawing the nozzle as the hole is
filled to 70% of its depth.
6. Immediately insert the stud, slowly and with slight twisting motion. Remove any excess resin around the hole before
it sets and leave it undisturbed until the curing time elapses.
7. Attach fixture and tighten the nut to the required torque.

High Solids Epoxy Zinc Rich Primer

SURFACE For best results, the surface should be treated as follows prior to priming.
PREPARATION • Remove all wax, oil and grease by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guidelines given by
SSPC-SPI.
• Where necessary remove weld spatter and round off all rough weld seams and sharp edges to a
smooth surface.
• Abrasive blast clean to a minimum standard of Sa 2 ½ Swedish Standard SIS 05 59 00 or ISO
8501-1 : 1988.
• Any surface defects revealed by blast cleaning should be ground, filled or treated in a suitable
manner.
• An average surface profile of 50 microns is acceptable, but this average should not exceed 75
microns.
• After blasting, remove dust from the surface.
• Special care must be taken on weld areas to remove flux and spatter. Welds should be ground
back to avoid pockets where corrosion can occur. The cleaned surface should be coated before
it becomes contaminated.
• The surface to be coated must also be clean and dry. If this product is to be over coated then
the surface must be free from all zinc salts. This can be achieved by fresh water wash and
scrubbing.

PRODUCT USE • Not recommended for immersion service in acid or alkaline conditions unless suitably top coated.
• Dry heat resistance up to l50°C.
RESTRICTIONS • As common with all Epoxy products, this product also will tend to discolour and chalk on exposure
to direct sunlight
• May also be applied between 50 and 75 Microns DFT.
• Contact Berger Representative for suggesting suitable paint system

SAFETY • Avoid contact with the skin and eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing such as overalls, goggles,
dust masks and gloves. Use a barrier cream.
PRECAUTIONS • Ensure that there is adequate ventilation in the area where the product is being applied. Do not
breathe vapor or spray.
• This product is flammable. Keep away from sources of ignition. Do not smoke. Take precautionary
measures against static discharge. In case of fire – blanket flames with foam, carbon dioxide or dry
chemicals
• Refer to MSDS for further information.

FIRST AID • Eyes: In the event of accidental splashes, flush eyes with water immediately and obtain medical
advice
• Skin: Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water or approved industrial cleaner.
• DO NOT USE solvent or thinners.
• Inhalation: Remove to fresh air, loosen collar and keep patient rested.
• Ingestion: In case of accidental ingestion, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING.

SURFACE STEEL:
• For Maximum performance, this product should be applied to a surface that has been blast cleaned
PREPARATION and suitably primed (eg., with EPILUX or ZINCANODE or EPIMASTIC range of products).
• A build coat should be applied e.g., EPILUX or EPIMASTIC range of build / Intermediate coats
• The underlying system should be sound and undamaged.
• All surfaces to be over coated mush be dry and free from surface contaminants.
• All wax, oil and grease should be removed by solvent cleaning in accordance with guidelines given
in SSPC – SPI.
• Soluble salts, dirt and dust must be removed prior to applying the coating. Dry brushing should be
sufficient. A fresh water wash must be followed to remove all soluble salts.
• Always ensure maximum over coating time for the primer/ build coat has not been exceeded prior
to application.
ALUMINIUM, COPPER, ZINC SPRAYED STEEL, GALVAINISED METAL:
• Degrease with Berger Tool Cleaner and where practical abrade lightly to form key.
• Pre treat with one coat of LUXAPRIME 1500 followed by one coat of EPILUX range of primers.
Then apply ROBBIATHANE LOW SHEEN as specified.
NEW WOOD, PLYWOOD, CHIPBOARD, HARDBOARD, SHUTTERING ETC.:
• Sand paper smooth and dust down.
• Fill holes, cracks etc. with EPILUX 829. Then apply 2 – 3 coats of ROBBIATHANE Low sheen as
specified.
CONCRETE, PLASTER, BRICK, SIPORES BLOCKS ETC.:
• Dust down; remove all splashes of plaster, concrete, cement etc.
• Fill holes, cracks etc. with EPILUX 829
• Apply 1 or 2 coats of EPILUX CONCRETE PRIMER thinned 20-25% as priming coat.
• Then apply ROBBIATHANE LOW SHEEN as specified.

PRODUCT USE • This product is not suitable for use in immersed conditions.
• Do not apply this product if the pot life has been exceeded even if the paint still appears to liquid.
RESTRICTIONS • Dry heat resistance up to 120o C.
• May also be applied between 40 and 60 Microns DFT.
• Contact Berger Representative for suggesting suitable paint system

Section 4: First aid measures

4.1. Description of first aid measures


Following inhalation: Move the exposed individual to the fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable
for breathing. If not breathing, breathing is irregular or respiratory arrest occurs, provide
artificial respiration or oxygen by trained personnel. If unconscious, place in recovery
position and get medical attention immediately. Contact toxicology center.
Following skin Wash with plenty of soap and water for at least 10 minutes. Remove contaminated
clothing and shoes. In case irritation or any complaints occur, get medical attention and
contact:
avoid further exposure.
Following eye contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Check for and remove
any contact lenses. Get medical attention.
Following ingestion: Wash out mouth with water. Move the exposed individual to the fresh air and keep at rest
in position comfortable for breathing. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by
medical personnel. If vomiting occurs, the head should be kept low, so that the vomit does
not enter the lungs. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If

unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately. Loosen
tight clothing (e.g. tie, belt). Get medical attention.

4.2. Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
Product can cause irritation to eyes, skin and respiratory system. It can also lead to skin
sensitization. After exposure, symptoms can be delayed. Contact with eyes can result in
eye erythema and excessive lacrimation. Exposure of inhalation routes can cause
coughing. Prolonged exposure of skin can cause erythema. Lack of data on symptoms
occurring after ingestion.

4.3. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
In case of inhalation of decomposition products, symptoms may be delayed. Exposed
individual may need to be kept under medical surveillance for 48 hours.

6.1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures


For non-emergency personnel:
No action involving any health risk shall be taken through contact with product. Avoid
contact with product without personal protective equipment, in case of contact with
large quantities of product or ventilation is insufficient. Avoid breathing vapours.
For emergency responders:
Disposal of product spillage should be taken only if personal protective equipment
described in section 8 is available.

6.2. Environmental precautions


Avoid dispersal of spilled material and it’s contact with soil, sewers, surface and ground
water. Inform the relevant authorities if the product has caused environmental pollution.
6.3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Secure drains and sewers. Collect product mechanically (e.g. with shovel) together with
contaminated soil. Possible spillages absorb with inert, absorbent material (e.g. sand,
earth, diatomaceous earth) and place in an appropriate waste disposal container

7.1. Precautions for safe handling
Put on an appropriate personal protective equipment (see section 8). Persons with a
history of skin sensitization problems should avoid contact with product. Do not allow
product to contact eyes or skin. Avoid breathing vapours released during curing process.
Use only in places with sufficient ventilation. Wear appropriate respirator when
ventilation is inadequate. Eating, drinking and smoking should be prohibited in areas
where this material is handled, stored and processed. Follow the manufacturer's
instructions for use of product. Keep product in the original container. Do not use product
after the expiration date.

7.2. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities


Store in original container, keep tightly closed when not in use. Protect from direct
sunlight and other heat sources in dry, well-ventilated area, away from incompatible
materials, food and drink. Store at 5– 25 °C. To ensure product stability avoid temperature
fluctuation during storage (overheating and undercooling).
