Nancy Louise Krekel, 64, of Hamilton, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Nancy was born January 19, 1958, the daughter of John and Elsie (Golc) Elder in Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1976 and went on to obtain her Certified Respiratory Therapy license from Ivy Technical School in Indianapolis. On June 17, 1978, she was united in marriage to Richard “Kurt” Krekel at St. Matthew’s Church in Indianapolis. He survives. Nancy worked in the Cardiopulmonary Department at Memorial Hospital in Carthage for forty-three years, serving as Department Head for the last thirty. She had served as President of the Hancock County Health Department and the Hamilton Ambulance Service where she also worked as an EMT. She had also been a Girl Scout Leader.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Richard “Kurt” Krekel, of Hamilton; two children, Michelle (Josh Gunning) Krekel of Hamilton and Erik (Dr. Kaylee) Krekel of Carthage; grandchildren, Maddison, Jakob, Marlee, Abbie, Avery, Garrett, Rory, Grayson and one due in June; siblings, Barbara (Dan) Fisher and John Elder of Indianapolis, Ann (Jerry) Coy of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Beth (Joe) Molina, Sarah Elder and Chris (Sherri) Elder, all of Indianapolis; her mother, Elsie Elder; a sister-in-law, Krista (Jay) Harris and a brother-in-law, Kelly (Kimiko) Krekel.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Elder.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 7, 2022, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton at a later date. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held at the Eagle’s Club in Carthage following the service. Memorials may be directed to H.U.G.S or the Memorial Hospital Foundation. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
