(syn. S. sachalinensis ‘Sekka’)

Japanese Fantail Willow is a fascinating male clone that is little known in the States but widely cultivated in its native Japan. The flat, curling, fasciated (compressed into a bundle) stems are a beautiful mahogany-red color that shines in the winter garden. Small grey catkins adorn the stems in March. Glossy green leaves with white underside shimmer in the summer breeze before turning bright yellow in fall.

This is a large shrub that offers four seasons of interest and is certainly worth planting if you have the space. It will develop into a broad-rounded shrub. Prune severely in late winter maintain size and highlight the stems (which also look amazing in flower arrangements).

Our plants are very young, but you can already see the bundled stems forming.
