Anna Paquinmade headlines on Wednesday when she arrived at the red carpet premiere of A Bit of Light rocking a cane (and a fashionable one, too, as it perfectly coordinated with her all-black ensemble).
New Zealand native Paquin, 41, toldPEOPLE that working, especially with her "first love" of independent filmmaking, has helped her cope with her health issues, which remain undisclosed.
"That's how I entered the film industry," she said. "I was working with people who are all about telling stories and telling them with integrity and truth."
Paquin's film A Bit of Light had the bonus of being directed by her husband and former True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer. The Oscar winner called him her "favorite person to play with."
Find out about Anna Paquin's health problems and how she's been coping.
Paquin has been battling an unknown medical condition for two years that gives her mobility issues and also impacts her speech. She toldPEOPLE, "It hasn't been easy."
The good news? A source later clarified that she'll hopefully make a full recovery, so even if it's not easy, it's also likely not permanent.
Paquin's specific medical condition hasn't been publicly disclosed.
Why does Anna Paquin have a cane?
Paquin's medical condition causes mobility issues, but the specifics of her condition haven't been revealed. She uses a cane for help walking, just like plenty of other people do—and she's making mobility aids look chic AF.
Does Anna Paquin have MS?
Some fans have speculated that Paquin may have multiple sclerosis (MS) like stars including Christina Applegate, Selma Blair and Jamie-Lynn Sigler. MS is a neurological disease that can cause mobility issues, slurred speech, cognitive issues, vertigo and blurry vision, among other symptoms. Paquin hasn't disclosed her own specific diagnosis.
What is Anna Paquin's health issue?
Paquin is keeping the details of her health problem, aside from the mobility and speech issues she previously discussed, private.
