Ludwigia Repens Rubin, commonly called ludwigia repens, ludwigia repens Rubin, Red-Leaf Ludwigia, Red repens, Ludwigia sp. Weinrot, Creeping Primrose-Willow is from North America with striking dark red leaves and stalk. Stems from 20-50 cm and 4-6 cm wide. It makes a fine colour contrast to the green shades in the aquarium. Plant in large groups to enhance the decorative effect, and prune regularly to encourage bushy growth. The plant makes few demands, but if light is insufficient the lower leaves tend to fall off. In strong light the colour becomes more intense.

Reproduction takes place normally in the warm months when the plant is already mature. It yields small yellow flowers on the surface of the water. When seeds develop, they will drop easily to the substrate, and they will start growing into a new plant. You may cut off the branches atop the plant to propagate favorably. Likewise, taking off the dead leaves up to the last node located at the bottom of the stem is an effective way of cutting and trimming, minimizing the bushy appearance. This pruning process ensures proper growth of the root to multiply successfully.
