Q:What happens when plant gets old and woody? Is it dead or can it be saved?

    Answer This Question

A:  Geraniums are naturally spindly and woody plants. If your plant is overly spindly or leggy, it might not be getting enough light or being over watered. Pruning should save your plant. Cut back and prune away about half of the spindly, leggy or woody parts of your plant and remove any dead stems. This will allow more light to penetrate the plants. Pruning will also prevent the plant from becoming overgrown and will promote a nice bushy plant. Poor draining soil can also contribute to growth issues. Make sure your soil is well draining and if not, consider amending the soil to create better drainage. The roots do not like to sit in overly wet conditions. Only water when the soil is dry to the touch. If your watering is done with an automatic sprinkler system, consider reducing the watering time or put a drip line to your geranium's where you can better control the watering. Good luck and Happy Gardening!

        Answer This Question

A:  Red geraniums are the most popular color available in most garden centers. The best way to find out if this item is available at your local Home Depot store is call and ask for the Garden Center. The Chandler store can be reached at 408-802-7117. You can also expect to see more red geraniums showing up in the garden center as we get closer to the holidays.

Very beautiful geranium plant, I placed it in a shaded area and water it everyday because I don’t want it to die in the AZ sun.

My geraniums are looking amazing! The recent rain and warmer temps have them growing like crazy. They were very root bound in the container, which is sad. My only complaint was the price. I buy them ever year. They were $2 more! Ridiculous!

The plants had a good root structure, but the soil was dry. Once planted, the plants are doing well. They are vigorous plants and look beautiful.

let’s put it this way…..I do not have a “green thumb” but geraniums are forgiving and are sturdy. the colors are what makes my three patios look just right.
