What would Fashion Week be without Jane Birkin? After all, she's influenced everyone from Yves Saint Laurent to Alexa Chung with her museworthy style and coveted bangs. (Admit it, you've brought her photo to your hairdresser.) Her daughters, Charlotte Gainsborg and Lou Doillon, are just as inspirational—proving that great style is obviously in the genes.
Sadly, for those of us not related, all we can do is watch and learn from the It Girl. When I spotted this photo of Jane in the '70s, I couldn't help but think how relaxed and cool she looks—a far cry from the teetering heels and bold red lips sure to be spotted all over Manhattan this Fashion Week. I also marveled at how this is the perfect in-between-season outfit: not too summery, not too autumnal.
