GTA 4 'Definitive Edition' trailer is the remake we deserve

This fan-made Grand Theft Auto 4 'Definitive Edition' trailer is the remake we deserve.

I want Grand Theft Auto VI as much as the next person but sometimes the classics are the best and that can be said for 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV. Despite an official remake being a distant dream, one Unreal Engine 5 trailer gives us a glimpse of what we are missing.

Released to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Grand Theft Auto IV was the fourth major instalment in Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series. Set in Liberty City which in itself was inspired by New York, it follows Niko Bellic as he attempts to escape his past whilst under pressure from loan sharks and mob bosses.

Despite its huge fanbase, Grand Theft Auto IV looks a little worse for wear these days thanks to the arrival of current-gen consoles. However, one YouTuber has managed to recreate some of the game by combining Unreal Engine 5 and Grand Theft Auto V PC mods and it looks amazing.

The YouTuber ‘flames per second’ has managed to combine “GTA 5 + Liberty City Map + GTA IV Handling + GTA IV Cars” to create Grand Theft Auto IV: Definitive Edition and we get to see a glimpse of how that looks courtesy of a 19-minute gameplay video posted to their channel. In this concept trailer, we see Nico himself as he cruises through a current-gen Liberty City before causing a bit of trouble with some bullets and molotovs. As you can probably guess, this led to him being hunted down by the police which led to even more chaos.

With the arrival of Unreal Engine 5 in recent years, it is incredible to see some classic games getting a reboot, even if they are unofficial. Also, I don’t know about you but seeing this is making me even more excited for what Rockstar can do with Grand Theft Auto VI. Until then, we will have to let the modders work their magic.
