GTA 4 remaster arriving before GTA 6 trailer, apparently

Could a remaster of GTA 4 arrive before GTA 6?

Despite featuring who is arguably the most annoying NPC in the existence of humankind, Roman Bellic, GTA IV is considered to be one of the best video games of all time, at least on Metacritic.

According to the critically acclaimed score on Metacritic, Grand Theft Auto IV has scored an almighty 98 on both PS3 and Xbox 360 with its PC release coming in at an impressive 90. So it stands to reason that developer Rockstar Games might one day consider releasing a remaster of GTA IV which originally launched in 2008. After all, the developer had recently released the port of 2010’s Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Well, it seems that Rockstar Games is going to release another port, this time with the aforementioned Grand Theft Auto IV and it’s going to arrive before GTA VI, apparently. It is claimed by the Twitter account @JeffPulaski that a remaster or port of GTA IV is on the cards. I’ve never heard of this Twitter account and at the time of writing, it only has 11 followers. Sure, the popularity of a social media account shouldn't always determine validity, but it’s certainly wise to be sceptical.

That being said, there is still reason to believe that a GTA IV port or remaster is coming. Back in July 2022, there were reports that Rockstar Games had cancelled plans to remaster Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV, one of which we now know has been released.

Furthermore, in July this year, while Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive didn't outright mention any particular games, it was claimed that it plans to release two “previously-released titles”. This was before the release of the Red Dead Redemption port. Both games were allegedly intended to release during the fiscal year 2024 which ends at the end of March next year.

We do know that Rockstar Games will be releasing the first official trailer for GTA VI early next month, but it has previously been suggested that the game won't be released until sometime between 2024 to 2025. So it might make sense for Take-Two Interactive to release a port of GTA IV to fill that gap, especially if it's a port of minimal effort and not a proper remaster.

In the meantime, if you want to play GTA IV in its current form, it is available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s also backwards compatible with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, as well as its two fantastic expansions, The Lost and the Damned, and The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
