Many cat owners simply love showing off their cute pet to the world with a series of pictures on social media.

But these felines have risen to fame online for a different reason, thanks to them being rather unphotogenic.

The photographs posted on Reddit show cats with ugly teeth, odd appearances and startled expressions.

Some of the animals are pictured sticking out their tongue, while others just seem to be having a bad day.

In Britain around 17 per cent of households own a cat, with an estimated eight million of them in our homes.

There are thought to be 600 million small cats in the world, including pets, strays, homeless and feral cats.
