This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible is a True Super Sport that has been beautifully restored and is ready to cruise! In 1964, the Impala Super Sport, which was the plushest and sportiest passenger car in Chevrolet's lineup at the time, became for the very first time its own sub-series (as opposed to an option package). The interiors featured leather grained vinyl with front bucket seats, a center console with console-mounted shifter, and distinctive SS trim throughout. There was no mistaking an Impala Super Sport from the exterior since they were trimmed with special SS full wheelcovers, a silver "swirl-pattern" anodized inserts on the decklid, along with various Super Sport specific trim on the quarters and decklid. While the basic SS Impalas were priced with the basic Inline 6 Cylinder engines, Chevy offered an array of larger, more powerful V8s including the iconic 409 which was of course the title of the famous Beach Boys track off their "Surfin' Safari" album. Interestingly, the '64 Impala continued its prominence in pop culture well beyond the hot rod era of the 60s and 70s with many famous rappers in the 90s and beyond, including including Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, rapping about "rollin' in [their] 6-4s" in reference to the iconic lowriding 1964 Impalas. Of all of the 1.5 million cars produced by Chevy in 1964, the Impala Convertible was the rarest with only 81,897 produced with even fewer being the SS Convertible. This particular '64 Impala SS comes to us from a southern collector who owned this car as a part of his personal collection. Powering this '64 Super Sport Impala Convertible is a 409 Cubic Inch V8 engine paired with a single 4 barrel carburetor that pushed out 340 horsepower in its day. Driving this Impala Convertible is enjoyable since the 409 V8 is backed up to a Powerglide Automatic Transmission that anybody can drive. Dual exhaust gives this Impala 409 a nice throaty sound. Being that this Impala was a top of the line model in its day, it is loaded with options! With power brakes, bringing this 409 powered Impala to a stop is made much easier. Getting in and out of tight parking spaces is also simplified because this 1964 Impala Convertible is equipped with power steering. You'll be able to stay cool while cruising even on the hottest summer days since since this '64 Impala SS featured air conditioning, which cost an extra $300+ back in 1964. This 64 Impala rides on wide whitewall bias ply tires with full SS wheelcovers which gives this convertible a fantastic look. The black vinyl power convertible top is in fantastic shape and it goes up and down with ease with the simple flick of a switch. The exterior has been beautifully refinished in its original color, Goldwood Yellow, completing the exterior look of the car. The interior on this Impala is stunning! The front bucket seats and rear bench seat have been reupholstered in leather grained Black Vinyl, just how this car was ordered back in 1964. The padded dash, center console, door panels, and steering wheel all appear to be in fantastic condition and in their stock configuration. The dash is equipped with a 120 Speedometer, fuel gauge, clock and upgraded retro-style AM/FM radio. Whether you're looking for your very first classic car or you're looking to add to existing collection, this 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible would make an excellent choice. Give us a call today!
