Houston Dynamo vs Austin FC - Staff picks

The Houston Dynamo host Austin FC tonight in a Texas tussle. We asked our staff to weigh in on if the Dynamo can get a win over their in-state rivals.

Cristian - 3-0 Dynamo win
(Record: 3-5)

The Dynamo are on somewhat of a high, especially if you add the possible return of the DPs. On the other side, Austin FC hasn’t won an away game yet and even if this has hints of a “rivalry”, I think Houston will keep that non winning streak away from home for Austin.

Rudy - 2-0 Dynamo win
(Record: 3-5)

Houston has worked hard so far this season. Rivalry or not, playing an in-state opponent has different vibes. I expect the Dynamo to dominate and continue their success.

Manny - 1-0 Dynamo win
(Record: 2-6)

It’s going to be a tough match for both teams. The Dynamo have the form and a tough defense to not be outscored. Austin has trouble scoring and keeping goals out. The Dynamo should win this one.

Joey - 3-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 3-5)

The Dynamo are riding some very positive momentum while Austin are quite the opposite. Playing at home with the potential return of Hector Herrera should drive Houston to a convincing win.

Dustyn - 2-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 3-5)

Rivalry matches can be tricky. Austin has the firepower to compete in this match up but they just haven’t put thing together yet this season. The Dynamo will hope that continues at least for this week. I see the Dynamo putting up a two-goal lead and then holding on for three points.

Gribbs - 2-0 Dynamo win
(Record 2-3)

Austin have struggled early in the year on the road and while Houston haven't cemented Shell Energy Stadium as a defensive stronghold yet, I think playing an in-state opponent, coming off a road win, and playing in front of a home crowd will be enough motivation to see it out for the Dynamo.

Billy 2-0 Dynamo win
(Record 4-4)

Austin are 0-1-2 on the road early on in 2024 and have also failed to score on the road as of yet. Austin and their poor road performances combined with Houston and their early strong run of play, feels like a dominating 2-0 win for the Dynamo tonight.
