The Interiors of Entourage

The office was designed to be spacious and transparent, for plot and technical reasons. "On Entourage, we were always doing the walk and talk," he says. "So we had to give those guys some legroom. The glass allowed us to shoot a number of different ways. We did the center fishbowl conference room where Ari could watch everything."

Ari Gold's (Jeremy Piven) agency, Miller Gold (later called TMA), was inspired by those of the Endeavor Agency, where the inspiration for Ari, agent Ari Emanuel, worked. "Back in the '90s, the Endeavor office was cutting-edge modern, unlike any agency that had ever been seen," Haran says. "When Ari Gold branched out to start his own agency, he said he was going to make that office look like an f'ing Burger King.' It was his statement, that he was going to take over the world of Hollywood agents."

This loft was created for Fredrick Lyne (Jason Isaacs), the marketing genius behind Vince's ill-fated Dolce & Gabanna ad campaign. The set, an empty space used for events, was only shown in a short scene, but Harlan thought it was worth all the work. "The scene [in which Vince confronts Fredrick about a romantic matter] was a really wonderful, awkward moment in the show," says Harlan, "and we had to show Fredrick as stylish and powerful. This was an incredible canvas for an über living space for a high-powered and extremely polished man."

Ari Gold's bedroom was a sharp contrast to his ultramodern office. Even though he ruled the boardroom, the designers made it obvious that he did not rule the roost. "Mrs. Ari (Perry Reeves) was clearly in the driver's seat when they were home," Harlan says. "We designed that with him out of the picture. When they were at home, it was her domain."

In season four, Vince moved to a modern house in the Hollywood Hills. In real life, the home belonged to hotelier Sam Nazarian, who had a great relationship with the show—several of his hotels and restaurants were featured over the years, including his new restaurant, Cleo, which appears this season. "The views were amazing," says Harlan of Nazarian's house, which sold in a week last February for $18 million. "There were glass doors and tons of incredible art, which we had to swap out. He was very generous to let us in and move his Bugatti out of the garage so we could film there."

While working on the Dolce & Gabbana campaign, Vince and the boys attend a trunk show in Frank Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall. "We got to dive into the fashion world. We thought, What's the most incredible place we could do this trunk show?'" Harlan recalls. "We laughed and said, What about Disney Hall?' Next thing you know, we were scouting it. The people at Dolce & Gabbana were fantastic. They brought in all their gear and helped us set it up and keep everything real."

The set of the Paris apartment of Jacqueline (Julia Levy-Boeken), Drama's long-distance girlfriend, was a departure both geographically and stylistically. "It was an opportunity to show that the other side of the phone call was in a different place and suggest Paris out the windows," Harlan says. "Obviously we weren't going to go with the Hey, look, it's the Eiffel Tower' background, so we used the hills of Montmartre. We were able to play with the tall windows and make it feel like she was somewhere Parisian."

For the office of a studio president, Harlan drew from the look of studios in the 1920s. "It was fun for us to go back in Hollywood's history and play with some of the styles of older offices, like [Columbia Pictures studio executive] Harry Cohn's in the old Sunset Gower Studios," Harlan says.

The production team prided itself on featuring the most insider and of-the-moment restaurants, bars, and hotels. "We kept using the cliché We don't go to a restaurant, we go to the restaurant,'" Harlan says. One of these hot spots was Geoffrey's Malibu, where the boys meet with Ari and Scott (Scott Caan) after Vince leaves rehab in this season's premiere. The eatery is known for its celebrity clientele, and recent patrons include Halle Berry, Pink, and Lindsay Lohan.
