Johnny Depp (Actor/Musician)

Johnny Depp (born June 9, 1963) is an American actor who, for a period in the 2010s, was the highest paid actor in the world. He made his feature film acting debut in Wes Craven's 1984 horror classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and went on to have supporting roles in "Platoon" (1986) and "Cry Baby" (1990). Depp's acting breakthrough came courtesy of the Fox police procedural series "21 Jump Street," which turned Depp into a teen idol during his four-season run as a main cast member from 1987 to 1989. He became synonymous for playing more offbeat and idiosyncratic characters when his film career took off in the 1990s with the likes of "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (1993), "Donnie Brasco" (1997) and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (1998). "Edward Scissorhands," his 1990 collaboration with Tim Burton, turned him into a weirdo icon. The two would become close collaborators and work together on "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005), "Corpse Bride" (2005), "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" (2007), "Alice in Wonderland" (2010), "Dark Shadows" (2012) and more.

Depp's role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney's billion-dollar grossing "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise garnered him an Oscar nomination for best actor and a title for highest-paid actor in the world in 2012. Depp was also Oscar nominated for "Finding Neverland" and "Sweeney Todd." He won a Golden Globe for "Sweeney Todd." His career slowed down as he became a Hollywood pariah due to abuse allegations made against him by ex-wife Amber Heard. The two's 2022 defamation trial in the United States garnered worldwide attention.
