Gotham” is welcoming a new resident, with the addition of Morena Baccarin to the cast.

Variety has confirmed that Baccarin will play DC Comics character Dr. Leslie Thompkins, described as a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend to Thomas and Martha Wayne. She is determined to use her skills to help those most in need in Gotham, which means working at the Arkham Asylum Home for the Criminally Insane. Her ability to stay cool under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn closer to James Gordon, and into increasingly dangerous waters.

The recurring character arc will begin in early 2015.

The role marks Baccarin’s return to the genre game, and Fox, where she previously starred in Joss Whedon’s “Firefly” in 2002. She also starred in ABC’s alien thriller “V,” and earned an Emmy nomination for her role on “Homeland.”

“Gotham” is further mining the vast library of Batman comics characters this season with the introduction of Harvey Dent (Nicholas D’Agosto), who will someday become the villainous Two-Face.
