Beloved comedian Magnus Härenstam passes away

Swedish actor and comedian, Magnus Härenstam, passed away late on Saturday night, following more than a decade-long battle with cancer, reports Swedish Radio Kulturnytt.

“I have a feeling Sweden’s become a little more dull,” says author Petter Karlsson who, together with Härenstam, wrote the autobiography, “Morsning och Goodbye”.

The comedian was born in Västervik in 1941, and met his long-time partners Brasse Brännström and Lasse Hallström during his time as a student. The trio started making TV-sketches and series.

Härenstam is perhaps most famous for his role in the famous children’s TV-show “Fem myor är fler än fyra elefanter” – five ants are more than four elephants – which he crafted together with Brännström and Hallström in the 1970’s.

“He was an exceptionally professional person, regardless of what he was working on. He was perhaps a better actor than many initially recognized,” says Petter Karlsson.

Although he appeared and starred in several movies and TV-shows, his main job later on in his career he was hosting the trivia program Jeopardy on TV4 for more than ten years, between 1991 and 2005.

His battle with cancer had its ups and downs, and at one point it seemed he had beat the disease. But last night came the definitive ending. Härenstam would’ve turned 74 in a few days.
