I recently went to the aquarium, and I want to tell you about the fish -dollar, Metinis silver Metynnis argenteus, but in common it is called fish - mirror.

In nature this species is found in South America, in the basins of the rivers Amazon and Paraguay. Silver metinis first mentioned in 1923. They are often called fish - dollar, because these fish are flat and rounded body, the shape of which resemble the dollar, and steel shiny scales similar to its silver shimmer.

These herbivorous piranhas, unlike their carnivorous counterparts, for life I prefer places with dense vegetation, but not completely refuse from protein. Metinis peace-loving and low maintenance. But if you suddenly want to start it at home, it is sure to delight the silver gleam of scales on the background of green vegetation, which looks very expressive.

The eye of the fish is also a silver shade with a vertical, like cats, black pupil. And the dorsal fin is transparent, and resembles a Crescent-shape, but a tail even has a weak neck. At these fishes the teeth are, though it is very small. To distinguish the male and the female will only help the anal fin. In males it is acute and reddish. During spawning the body becomes the future father even reddish - Golden.

Depending on the lighting in the aquarium, their scales may shimmer and green, and light blue, and sometimes a brownish tint. Sometimes the sides appear dark spots or fine that these little black cross bars, like our beauty.
