Our Guide To Keeping Rosy Barb Fish

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Pethia conchonius
    • Common name: Rosy Barb
    • Family: Cyprinidae
    • Origin: South Asia, particularly India and Bangladesh
    • Adult length: Up to 7 cm
    • Lifespan: 5 to 7 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Rosy Barbs prefer a well-decorated tank with ample swimming space. A tank size of at least 75 litres is recommended for a small group of these fish.
    • Provide plenty of plants like Java Moss, Java Fern, and floating plants to mimic their natural habitat and offer hiding spots.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Rosy Barbs thrive in slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5.
    • Keep the water temperature between 22 to 26°C (72 to 79°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Provide moderate filtration and gentle water flow in the tank, as these fish prefer calm waters.
  5. Diet:

    • Rosy Barbs are omnivorous and will readily accept high-quality flake or pellet food as a staple diet.
    • Offer them a varied diet including live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia to provide essential nutrients and keep them healthy.
  6. Tank mates:

    • Rosy Barbs are peaceful community fish and can be kept with other small, peaceful species such as other barbs, tetras, danios, and rasboras.
    • Ensure they are not housed with aggressive or fin-nipping fish that may stress or harm them.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Rosy Barbs are active swimmers and should be kept in groups of at least six individuals to feel secure and exhibit natural behaviors.
    • They are known for their social nature and can display interesting interactions within a well-planted tank.
