Our Guide To Keeping Albino Tiger Barb Fish

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Puntigrus tetrazona
    • Common name: Albino Tiger Barb
    • Family: Cyprinidae
    • Origin: Southeast Asia
    • Adult length: 7.5 cm
    • Lifespan: 6 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Albino Tiger Barbs require a spacious tank with plenty of swimming space. A minimum tank size of 75L is recommended for a small school of these fish.
    • Provide ample hiding places and areas with dense vegetation to mimic their natural habitat. They appreciate plants like Java Moss, Java Fern, and floating plants like Water Sprite.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Albino Tiger Barbs thrive in slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5.
    • Keep the water temperature between 22 to 27°C (72 to 81°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • A moderate water flow is suitable for these fish, so choose a filter that provides gentle to moderate flow.
  5. Diet:

    • Albino Tiger Barbs are omnivores and will accept a variety of foods. Offer them a balanced diet consisting of high-quality flake or pellet food as a staple.
    • Supplement their diet with live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia to provide essential nutrients and mimic their natural diet.
  6. Tank mates:

    • Albino Tiger Barbs are known to be semi-aggressive and may exhibit fin-nipping behavior, especially when kept in smaller groups. It's recommended to keep them in groups of at least 6 to disperse aggression.
    • They are compatible with other robust, fast-swimming fish such as danios, rasboras, and larger tetra species.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Albino Tiger Barbs are active and playful fish known for their energetic behavior and tendency to chase each other. They may not be suitable for very peaceful community tanks.
    • Avoid keeping them with slow-moving or long-finned species that may become targets of their nipping behavior.
