Britney and Lynne Spears are working to repair their relationship.

Lynne, 68 — who attended the pop star’s 42nd birthday bash on Friday, along with Britney’s brother Bryan Spears — is “really making an effort to be in Britney’s life," a source exclusively tells PEOPLE.

The “Toxic” singer “is still hurt, because she feels her mom could have done more to help her,” the source tells PEOPLE, “but she has very few friends and really needs to just be with family.”

"Her mom does love her. There is no doubt about that,” the insider, who also notes that “Britney can be very stubborn."

The source also says that Lynne is “very apologetic to Britney” and “takes full blame.”

“Lynne is really making an effort to be in Britney’s life. Britney likes spending time with her,” the insider says. "They have a complicated relationship, but it seems they both need each other."

Lynne was spotted leaving Britney’s 42nd birthday party venue in Los Angeles on Saturday morning, seemingly after spending the night, photos obtained by TMZ show.

After the “Circus” singer’s Friday bash, a second source told PEOPLE that “being together and celebrating her birthday was a really nice moment for the family.”

The special Spears family moment comes months after Britney shared that she and Lynne were working to repair their fractured relationship, revealing that her mom had recently visited her house.

"My sweet mama showed up at my door step yesterday after 3 years,” the singer wrote in an Instagram post in May. “It's been such a long time … with family there's always things that need to be worked out … but time heals all wounds !!!”

The Woman in Me author continued, "After being able to communicate what I've held in for an extremely long time, I feel so blessed we were able to try to make things RIGHT !!! I love 💕 you so much !!! Psss… I'm so blessed we can have coffee together after 14 years !!! Let's go shopping afterwards !!!"

The pop star also shared touching words about Bryan, 46, earlier this year, indicating that the duo is currently working to mend their relationship. (She previously called him out on social media in June 2022, revealing that he was not invited to her wedding to now-ex Sam Asghari.)

Last month, Britney shared a photo of Bryan dressed in a work suit and construction hat and wrote, "My big brother who’s like a dad and my best friend !! Not sure what’s going on with this outfit though 😂😂😂🧐🙄 !!!”

Also in November, Britney’s younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, broke her silence on her relationship with the singer, and said she has looked up to her since they were kids.

“Anything my sister did I always thought was the best,"  the Zoey 101 alum, 32, explained on an episode of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. "When it came to my sister, even if I felt anything, if anyone said anything, I was ready to go. I was like, ‘Don’t talk about my sister, she’s the best.’”

When asked if it is “true you don’t get on with [Britney] now?” Jamie Lynn had a simple response: “I love my sister.”
