A NEW DAY Welcome to our first issue as Oregon Wedding Day! This marks a huge moment for not only our brand, but the community as well. This new name reflects our belief that love is love and embraces the importance of individuality. What hasn’t changed is our dedication to sharing beautiful inspiration, from fashion and flowers to the love stories of Oregon couples. So much thought and time goes into each photo we select and every word we choose, and we hope that this issue brings you as much joy as it did to us while we were creating it. Nature is a theme that runs throughout this issue, from geographically inspired stationery suites (page 62) to a lineup of gorgeous outdoor wedding venues (page 42). For those looking to perfect their bridal style, check out our guide to bridal boutiques (page 38) and the stunning fashion and beauty captured by the talented photographer Jenny Kang, with the effervescent Olivia Hawthorne on hair and makeup. Though the rain was coming down throughout this cover shoot, our team captured the essence of a modern-day bride. The real weddings featured this month were such a journey of love. So many beautiful couples celebrating in the manner that means the most to them, their family and friends. Be sure to turn to this section (page 85) for romantic inspiration and to be filled with warmth and happiness—especially on a cold and rainy day. On a personal note, I am honored to announce that I have been promoted to editorial director and will be overseeing the editorial and creative teams of all seven of our wedding magazines. INTO FOCUS Putting together this issue of Oregon Wedding Day has felt very much like planning a real-life wedding. It has been a long-term project filled with millions of tiny and mostly fun decisions. Slowly, one by one, each decision causes the picture to come more and more into focus. For us, a major factor was you. … So, spend time with this issue and don’t rush into anything; rather than feeling like you have a mile-long list of things to check off, focus on making the picture clearer. With you in mind, we sought inspiration from the state’s stunning coast to Mount Hood. This issue is packed from cover to cover with ideas from across the state and features 18 real couples who did it their way. We surrendered to one of our long-lost loves, color, and included it in beautiful bouquets captured by photographer Jenny Kang (page 46), in unique invitations (page 86), and in a mid-century modern inspired shoot by The Indigo Bride (page 56). The Nines was the perfect setting for Oregon Bride’s Best of 2023 Awards gala. The timeless event featured a black-and-white color palette inspired by Chanel. LOVE STORY Jacob and Maged had come from opposite ends of the country to settle in Oregon when they were introduced by a mutual friend in Eugene. (The same friend officiated at their wedding!) Jacob has worked in the Oregon wine industry for more than 10 years, and the couple now lives on their own vineyard and farm. Their relationship is rooted in a deep love of Oregon—something Jacob and Maged wanted to impart to their guests on their special day. “Living on our vineyard and working farm in McMinnville, we wanted to ensure we could share everything wine country offers with our venue, flowers and catering selection,” notes Maged of their wedding celebration. On a glorious sunny September day, as guests sat under white umbrellas, the outdoor ceremony took place surrounded by the rolling hills and greenery of the famed wine region. For cocktail hour, the charming Bee’s Knees Vintage Bar offered local pours and mixed custom cocktails, all while drag queens performed renditions of ABBA hits. The couple’s close friends Jeremi and John of Pollinate Flowers fulfilled their one and only floral request—color, color, color—with jewel tone flowers adorning the chuppah, the elaborate head table and the wearable florals adorning the grooms’ gray suits. Other iconic moments of the day included a lovely three-tiered confection decorated with real flowers mingling with buttercream “painted” blooms, peacocks strolling around the venue, and guests dancing the traditional hora.

DISCO IN THE DESERT “This styled elopement was inspired by the earthy natural hues of the hills, but we knew we also wanted to include color because it would really pop in the desert,” says OREGON ELEVATED EVENTS’ Janane Doutrich of this romantic setup, designed for an adventure-loving couple in the Painted Hills. “The fun color palette, disco balls and funky stationery suite winked at the ’70s!” The groom’s rust-colored suit reflected the surrounding vistas, while the bride’s ethereal dress, with its billowy sleeves, floated in the wind. Floral arrangements were composed of seasonal blooms like wildflowers and peonies, which flowed into a bridal bouquet gathered with silk ribbons. “This season is all about dainty florals and mindfully placed blooms,” says Morgan Westerberg-Jackson of BLOMSTRA FLORAL CO. “Massive bouquets are beautiful, but a smaller amount of flowers forces the designer to really be mindful about the placement of each flower.” That same aesthetic carried to the tablescape, with its intentionally simple design elements, such as bud vases, colored glassware, retro paper elements and disco balls (a favorite of the couple). The petite cake was decorated with strokes of fiery colors and a few choice blooms. Understated yet statement-making at the same time, this scene showcases what an intimate wedding could look like in a remote location. —Chelsea Gibson

LOVE IN GREEN Held inside BLOCKHOUSE at the POMARIUS NURSERY ORANGERIE, the celebration centered around how the grooms’ love had blossomed—a metaphor made literal with a stunning array of succulents. Nestled along a free-flowing creek with conifer trees and manicured gardens, Leach Botanical Garden in Southeast Portland provides a lovely space for couples longing for a garden party wedding. And for a talented team of wedding pros, it served as a dreamy setting for awakening this demure design. “Inspired by seasonal florals and fruit, we looked to nature to be our guide for this editorial bridal shoot,” says photographer Megan Thompson of the group’s vision. Fresh fruit, namely apricots, were the foundation of the color palette, rounded out by shades of white, peach, blush and blue. A seamless extension of the garden surroundings, the floral design bounded wild and free, bringing texture to the table arrangements, an altar installation and a beautiful bridal bouquet. “I typically use as many locally grown flowers and foliage as I can, and spring is the season when local blooms really start flourishing, so I wanted to showcase the abundance of locally grown flowers here in Oregon,” explains florist Caroline Reusen. From start to finish, this expertly designed day put an elegant spin on the maximalist wedding trend, and we can’t get enough of it.

With the House on Metolius providing a striking mid-century modern setting, The Indigo Bride created a design melding the beauty of Morocco with the hues of the high desert. The team drew inspiration from the beauty of Moroccan tiles, focusing on the intricate patterns and rich textures. “We were instantly drawn to their rich visual appeal and wanted to incorporate their essence into our design,” explains Alisha Reicks-Sturgill of The Indigo Bride. The rugged beauty of Oregon’s high desert landscape was complemented by authentic, earthy hues and sunset-inspired shades, which enhanced the vitality and exotic allure of the design. The team also focused on creating an authentic, warm and inviting atmosphere. Says Reicks-Sturgill, “In a world where minimalist aesthetics have been dominating, we sought to break away from the trend and embrace a design that exuded character and personality.”

Bright orange blooms in bud vases and hanging Moroccan lanterns contribute to the atmosphere, and a cowhide rug calls to mind the high desert. Vivian Wang and Phillip Sugimoto’s wedding was a celebration of their nine-year journey, on which they overcame the challenges of a longdistance relationship and supported each other through medical school. The couple, already considered “married” by their families, hosted a beautiful party set against the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Hood. The celebration’s harmonious design featured clean lines and savvy simplicity, a subtle reflection of Vivian’s surgical precision. The couple incorporated personal and cultural details, including their favorite childhood snacks and Vivian’s unique veil, which resembled a cape, to pay homage to her heritage. The night culminated in the couple and their guests filling the dance floor and dancing away to “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire.

Sometimes, love finds us in deceptively ordinary corners of our lives. Kelly Stone and Laura Hicks, once hailing from rival high schools, found their paths merging 15 years later at a local spin class, blossoming into a love story. When planning their nuptials, the pair narrowed their focus to adjectives that detailed each feeling they wanted to evoke: inviting, festive, cozy, elegant, modern and romantic. Their intimate wedding day was filled with personal touches that spoke volumes of their love; each detail wove an event that was as much about their past as it was about their future. In a nod to their shared love for the Pacific Northwest and the essence of spring, the couple chose a stunning array of locally sourced flowers. Locally grown ranunculus, anemones, sweet peas, and hellebores were chosen for their beauty and significance to the couple and the area they call home. The intimate ceremony was attended by 30 of their closest family and friends, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. It took place on the venue's idyllic balcony against the backdrop of their chosen florals in a wild, unstructured hedge and winding vines. The newlyweds ensured their pets' presence was deeply felt, honoring them with signature cocktails with their namesakes, "The Honey" and "The Simon." Their celebration, while close-knit, didn't lack in merriment. Following the ceremony, the gathering expanded, welcoming 100 more guests for an evening of dancing, toasts and laughter. It was a day filled with genuine emotions, from the heartfelt first look—the main high point for Kelly and Laura—to the joyous moments shared with their guests. —Lexi Braun

Having met at a mutual friend’s intimate potluck, Morgan Geiger and Andrew Milner decided to organize a unique celebration of their own to mark their marriage. For their wedding, the bride had a vivid vision filled with “color and good vibes.” The couple’s shared passion for Portland’s music scene influenced their laser focus on the most important aspect of the big day: dancing with friends and family. From there, a vibrant motif unfolded, characterized by shades of pink and uniquely romantic inspiration drawn from the renowned ’70s disco nightclub Studio 54 in New York City. On the big day, guests took their seats at the Peninsula Park Rose Garden, facing a fresh and funky altar flanked by two uniquely beautiful columns consisting of tropical fronds, tall stalks of decorative grasses, roses and party elements. Morgan’s creative spirit shone through in the floral arrangements, signs and installations she had crafted. Her fondness for crafting became a labor of love, infusing her and Andrew’s wedding with distinctly personal touches. In addition to the décor, Morgan’s look reflected her spirit, with a petal-laden veil and a long, winding floral headpiece. Following the ceremony, the celebration began in earnest with a vibrant cocktail hour that was the embodiment of the “pink disco party” theme. Disco balls, pampas grass and roses adorned the venue, setting the stage for a blowout celebration as guests who made up the couple’s inner circle of self-proclaimed “Burning Man” types danced to their favorite tunes. Sometimes, physics can lead to chemistry. When Zahra Hayati ventured to the U.S. from Iran to start her graduate studies in physics at Florida State University, sparks flew when she met classmate Bradford Cannon. “On Valentine’s Day 2014, [Brad] gave me a pink flower and asked me to be his Valentine,” says the bride. Just over nine years later, the pair tied the knot at The Griffin House in a dreamy, light-filled wedding set against a breathtaking backdrop of rolling hills, verdant vineyards and the majestic Columbia River Gorge. The bride and groom sought to infuse their love for good food, hiking and their separate cultural heritages into their special day. Zahra explains, “We didn’t have a Persian-style wedding, but we wanted to incorporate Persian elements.” For example, the groom’s ring— purchased from a store in Iran—was engraved with the couple’s wedding date according to both the solar Hijri calendar and the Gregorian calendar to symbolize the uniting of their two cultures. The couple exchanged vows flanked by arrangements of blush and white garden roses accented with baby's breath, with Brad giving some of his promises in Zahra’s native tongue. The reception, held under hanging greenery and among cascading flowers, was filled with Persian songs and dancing, including the unique Baba Karam dance. The infusion of Persian flavors even found their way into the Champagne toast, with the bride ensuring that each glass of Champagne contained rose jam at the bottom of the flute and rose petals floating at the top. There was also a traditional tea station. “I mixed the idea of a tea station with wedding favors so that guests could pick a teacup, select their favorite tea, try all sweets and finally take home their cup along with mini bottles filled with sample tea and rose buds as a gift,” notes Zahra. Tables showcased smaller arrangements of the signature flower combination. As the evening progressed, guests signed a painted representation of the venue, a lasting keepsake of the idyllic setting for the newlyweds. —Megan Simpson Teeter

Andrea Deniz Herrera Güriş and Jon Robert Orhan İnönüeri celebrated in style at Black Walnut Inn & Vineyard, which is set in the heart of Oregon’s wine country. Andrea and Jon were drawn to each other in part because they share a Turkish heritage, which was represented throughout their wedding day through touches such as Turkish and Persian rugs woven into ceremony décor and evil eyes hung at the entrance to the wedding—a Turkish tradition in which the eyes bestow protection and prosperity. Andrea’s bouquet was filled with dahlias as an homage to her mother, Dalya, while bundles of dried lavender were a romantic addition to the bridal party’s flowers. The reception presented a Mediterranean essence infused with classic décor, a nod to the couple’s travels around the globe. Old-world and antique elements brought an elevated simplicity, with features like terra cotta, stone and other organic materials framing the sophisticated design. Silver and aged brass vessels were filled with potted herbs mixed with fruits, which proved a natural complement to the neutral tablescapes adorned with hints of blue. One of the highlights was the dinner, a menu curated by the groom, who is a chef at McMinnville’s Hayward Restaurant, which was expertly executed by Chef Raul of Magnolia Grill. “Major credit to him and his team for cooking up a fabulous dinner for our wedding,” says Andrea. “His enthusiasm and willingness to work with us made our wedding 100x more memorable!” Andrea’s Guatemalan roots were honored by the band A Caro O Cruz, which performed an acoustic set featuring English, Spanish and Portuguese songs. The evening was a bright beginning to Andrea and Jon’s married life, filled with heartwarming moments of family and friends in an idyllic setting. —Emily Sweet

In the halls of the University of Oregon, Madeline Reece and Taylor Stinson shared a passion for sports that kindled a lasting romance. Madeline, a lacrosse player, and Taylor, who played football, formed a bond rooted in their love for the game. Little did they know that their jersey numbers—Madeline’s is No. 3, and Taylor’s is No. 25—would become a significant date in their lives: March 25, 2023. The wedding’s clean, black-tie-inspired theme reflected the couple’s elegant style, and the event took place in the very church where Madeline’s family had witnessed seven family weddings spanning over half a century. The unexpected snowfall on their wedding morning gave the day a sense of magic, turning it into a memorable “March Madness” adventure. Madeline’s bouquet held her late grandfather’s wedding ring, and she adorned herself with her great-grandmother's diamond earrings, acknowledging the importance of family traditions. Her gown featured a sleek one-shoulder sash, while Taylor’s tuxedo paired a white jacket with dark slacks. The bride and groom incorporated their shared athletic history into some of their wedding details, such as the guest seating chart, which resembled a sports “seeding” bracket. The floral arrangements featured more than 2,000 white tulips, symbolizing the renewal of spring and the purity of the couple’s love. The chandeliers at The Oregon Golf Club were festooned with white tulips hanging from their stems, creating an enchanting atmosphere for the reception. Crisp white linens, fern green velvet napkins and black faille table runners added to the sophistication of the decor. The father-daughter and mother-son dances, with all parents and children joining in, created heartwarming and joyous moments. The evening was filled with laughter, love and a deep sense of connection as Madeline and Taylor celebrated their relationship, supported by the families that had witnessed their journey from high school “rivalry” to romance. —Megan Simpson Teeter

In the wooded setting of Crag Rat Hut, Karli and Jakub’s love story, which began as a chance meeting in a college dorm, entered its most enchanting chapter. The couple’s vision for their wedding was one of understated elegance; nature’s vibrant and neutral hues formed the canvas that accentuated the majestic mountain vistas, creating a natural yet refined design. Each detail was carefully chosen to complement their surroundings, from bunches of assorted wildflowers lining the aisle to the rustic signage. Following bridesmaids bedecked in jewel-tone dresses, the bride descended the exterior staircase for the ceremony wearing a detailed sheath dress with a plunging neckline and an elegant train. Karli and Jakub exchanged heartfelt vows against the backdrop of the rugged wilderness. Going into the celebration, friends and family signed a picturesque Pacific Northwest coffee table book that doubled as a guest book. Slab pies and checkered pie paper added a sweet retro nod to the setting and hinted at sweet beginnings. As the sun began its descent, tradition met merriment with a Polish toast, a bow to Jakub’s heritage. “There are two shots on the table; one is vodka and the other water,” the bride explains. “Whoever gets the one with vodka is in charge of the house, the one who makes all the rules!” The delightful result: Jakub sipped water while Karli held the vodka—and her declaration was met with cheers from the crowd. The golden hour created a warmly romantic setting for an interlude at the mobile bar and a moment of reflection for Karli and Jakub. On the softly lit patio, attendees got their groove on with the new Mr. and Mrs., before a few friends went old-school and tied empty cans to the back of the newlyweds’ Subaru getaway car. —Megan Simpson Teeter

Fate is funny. When Emily Gordon’s visiting aunt wanted to head into Portland to shop, Emily’s “range” on the dating app Bumble shifted, allowing her to see potential matches in the city. As luck would have it, Sean Britto had returned to Portland from India the same week. “Thanks to my Aunt Tamar, our dating apps crossed paths, and we could match,” says the bride, laughing. Their wedding vision was as simple as it was groovy: “disco garden party,” featuring bright pastel florals, themed signage and hints of 1970s flair. Emily and Sean exchanged vows beneath a black wrought iron garden arbor adorned with lush spring flowers in shades of pink, yellow, purple and blue. In lieu of the traditional roles given to the littles, the young wedding party members held bubble wands throughout the ceremony. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with aesthetic signage and wearable flowers, followed by a vibrant reception. Visiting alpacas were a must for the bride, and in the same vein, the couple chose to symbolically adopt animals through the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) instead of giving out traditional wedding favors. Dining tables lined with contrasting blooms and punches of color sat underneath billowing fabrics and string lights. The dance floor was abuzz with energy for the entirety of the event, thanks to a fantastic DJ and guests’ playful spirits. Speaking of playful, guests raved about the bountiful cake bar, which displayed several cakes topped with fresh blooms and plenty of sprinkles. —Megan Simpson Teeter

Hosting an intimate celebration, Lindsey Kahrau and Garrett Miller kept things quiet at their outdoor wedding, inviting just their closest friends and family, and incorporating small details that represent their life together. Leach Botanical Garden was the perfect venue for the couple to celebrate their special day because it brought back fond memories of the early stages of their relationship, many of which were made at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. With her love of flowers, Lindsey envisioned a beautiful bouquet composed of silver dollar eucalyptus and peonies, with accents of greens and other florals. To relive the wonderful moments of the day, the bride had her stunning bouquet pressed and framed. The couple’s chosen color palette was made up of cream, dusty pink and sage green to complement the botanical garden. For the reception, Vibrant Table crafted delicious and colorful signature mocktails for all the guests. Each banquet table was adorned with a garland laid lengthwise down the center of the table, with several smaller arrangements placed throughout the space to bring the gardens into the reception.
