Migratory locust, Locusta migratoria (Linnaeus, 1758) (Orthoptera: Acrididae) is a hemimetabolous (incomplete development) insect with a long history of being a pest throughout many regions of the world. Large swarms reduce vegetation and crops in regions resulting in lack of forbs for grazing animals and people, respectively. This insect can be mass-produced in colony. Resulting adults can be harvested and sold as food for human consumption. Development from egg deposit to adult is approximately three months depending on environmental conditions.
