The Google brand is known for its creative, pioneering management style. This manifests itself in highly innovative office design: the aim was to conceive the most creative, flexible and thereby adaptable working environments possible for diverse employee needs. The task included the furnishing of around 300 workplaces and meeting rooms of various sizes, a number of break and quiet areas and a spacious restaurant. An adjoining terrace and garden space extend the facilities outwards with various recreational and relaxation areas.

In order to provide employees with an inspiring, individual workplace, priority was given to a functional, flexible spatial concept, expressed with simple, industrial materials. The levels were stripped down to their raw structure by sandblasting and exposing the buildings original reinforced concrete construction. The office floors’ atmosphere is characterised by simple and raw materials, such as the installation of almost untreated metal and glass partitioning systems, the existing cement screed, which was refined by sanding, and space-shaping textiles. Monochrome fabrics offer privacy and darken the interiors as needed. The raw character is reinforced by the carefully installed exposed building services.

An orangerie with hammocks, a break room with high-quality vintage furniture and a restaurant structured by means of islands and zoned into segments appear playful and uncomplicated. Taken together, these design measures offer a professional and creative working environment that enables diverse settings for employee interaction and concentration.
