This is my first time attempting to sex a tarantula and I'm not sure exactly what im looking for here.

I can't tell. There looks like something that -could- be spermatheca but I'm not positive that it's not just a shadow or wrinkle. Try getting a picture of it with better ambient lighting and no flash-- I.E. right under a table lamp so it's really well lit. The flash adds a lot of glare and washes things out.
@miss moxie Unfortunately I tried that and my camera just will not focus unless I have flash on.
But I can say that the little flap is actually on the molt it's not just a shadow.
