Taxiphyllum sp. 'Flame', Flame moss

Flame moss Taxiphyllum sp. “Flame”, Flame moss is the most unique moss among other mosses cultivated in the aquarium. While majority of the mosses extensively branch out in different directions, the Flame moss grows strictly upwards, just like a stem plant. The fronds twist as it grows and thus resembling the flame. Another distinctive feature of this moss is a dark green color.

The care is relatively easy. It doesn't not require CO2 if the water has low pH and kH. But if the pH is high then the carbon dioxide should be supplied in the amount enough to lower the pH down to at least 7.5. Small dosage of fertilizer can improve its appearance, but generally it is not necessary.

This moss has a special place in aquascaping. It's often used to imitate the forest and trees, or simply to attract attention to a particular element of the design. A vivid example of such use is shown on the photo.
