Not long ago, I decided to move my Betta persephone group back into the 45 litre tank they were originally in. I laid down some ADA Malaya as substrate, and covered it with peat moss, sphagnum moss, and IAL. Every week, I add a couple bags of rooibos tea to keep the water dark, and I have some Mekong River driftwood in there to provide hiding places for the shyer fish. The only thing missing, are the plants. Mayaca fluviatilis, duckweed, watersprite, and hygrophila polysperma will be used to provide cover in the mid-upper levels of the tank. I'm just waiting on them to arrive from interstate.

Great pictures. My pair spawn regularly but I can never get viable eggs for some reason

That's odd. What is your pH? I have found Betta persephone one of the more difficult species from this complex to breed. Perhaps there is an issue with your water hardness/pH, or maybe a fertility problem with the fish themselves? Are they only a young pair?

My pH id 6.0 with a tds of 60. When I leave the eggs with the male they're gone the next morning but when I remove the nest the eggs get fungus. The male is fertile as ive seen a few eggs beginning to form but next day they get fungus. I don't know where to go from here as ive tried meth blue and alder cones to try stop the fungus. These are probably close to a year old I reckon

Hmm I wonder if maybe your pH is just too high for the fry to develop properly? Probably the reason the eggs are gone when left with the male is that they fungused and so he's been eating them. I was going to suggest meth blue as this is what I use when hatching killifish eggs, but it sounds like you've already tried that. I wonder if you could get your hands on some RO water and drop your pH below 6, this might help? If they are large enough to successfully spawn and you have noticed what appear to be viable eggs being produced, their age shouldn't be an issue.

I use ro mixed with tap because my water here is so hard. I'll try drop the pH further and see how I get on. I'll let you know if im successful

Good luck! They are a beautiful species and they really need hobbyists out there breeding them. I may be adding a new pair of this species to my fish room in the next couple of weeks, and possibly attempting a spawn or two with a pair of my older fish. Been a while since I've had any persephone fry.
