Description

5-16cm long, silvery with black spots near head and tail Dorsal fin of male reddish with black spots No barbels Live in freshwater and brackish benthopelagic area and distributed in Asia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand. (Kottelat, 2001). The fish can be found in still, shallow, marginal waters of tanks and rivers, mostly with muddy bottoms.

Details of the varieties

This species of barbs are laid 150 eggs in batches of about 20 at a time (Pethiyagoda et al., 2012). In aquarium groups of individuals can be kept in 60 cm of minimum tank size.
