Designing Fuse Bead Patterns

You ready to take your fuse bead art to the next level?

Being limited by only what you can find on the internet is pretty frustrating. Creating patterns from scratch isn’t always an option for less artistically inclined individuals (like me) but I’m sure you’ve seen a picture you just wish was pixelated! I felt the same way. Lucky for us there are a lot of apps out there that will auto pixelate images for you.

Tip: Keep in mind the more pixels in the image the larger the final product. Make sure the number of pixels in your image does not exceed the number of pegs on your boards.

Image Converters

8Bit Photo Lab (android)

8Bit Photo Lab allows you to select the number of pixels wide/tall you want. This app has different color palettes but it’s worth the one-time fee to purchase the full version, as it allows you to add custom palettes. (tip: I use the 24bit palette). Because the app does not have pre-loaded palettes for the different bead brands, the beaded image is true to the original color and does not convert colors to what is only available to a brand – so it does require color planning and you will have to make color decisions based on what you own.

Bead Studio (android)

“I really like Bead Studio for Android. For me, it's an all in one app that is essential to my bead pattern making process. The pattern making tool has many options for colors, shapes, and sizes that can be customized by bead brand, size, and board type. You can make a pattern by loading a photo or just freehand your own. It also has a feature where you can follow the pattern as you bead and checkmark the beads you have placed! This app will definitely aid in your beading adventures!” - Bri

PerlyPop (iOS)

PerlyPop is is only available on iOS. It includes preloaded Hama, Artkal, and Perler color palettes. The dropper tool allows you to replace bead colors in your image or even erase entire beads for a more clear pattern. This app is most recommended amongst iOS users.

Beadifier Free (browser)

Beadifier is a tool that can be used from your web browser. Beadifier includes preloaded color palettes for Hama, Perler, and Artkal. It allows you to deselect specific colors to improve your image and select the number of pixels you want the image converted into.

Beadifier Pro (browser)

If you’re interested in even more bells and whistles you can subscribe to Beadifier Pro for $3.99/mo. It’s got a ton of features to give you a great pattern, like the “bead” filter.

Pixel-Beads (browser)

Pixel-Beads.net is another converter used for web browsers. This option is simple to use without a lot of features but what attracts my attention is that it has an easy to follow grid feature.
