Katakana

Katakana is used to write foreign words. In contrast, Hiragana is used to write native words. For example, “America” would use Katakana since that is an English word: アメリカ. You would not use Hiragana to write “America”: あめりか

Katakana has the same number of characters as the Hiragana system. They have all the same pronunciation as well. The difference is the written characters. The Katakana system is considered the angular and simpler of the two.

We will follow the same learning system of practice and repetition to master Japanese Katakana. We provide the same high quality visual examples so that learning the stroke order is very clear.

When you’re ready, you can head over to our first lesson:  a ア i イ u ウ e エ o オ
