Trichocereus Peruvianus aka Peruvian Torch is a fast growing columnar cactus native to the Andes mountains and other regions of South America. Regional varieties of this species feature a striking frosted blue hue with 6-9 ribs and white flowers. It often stands upright but can also hang down from cliffs. Spine sizes and colors vary, typically 6-8 honey-colored to brown spines up to 4 cm long. After the Spanish conquest, this plant took on a more familiar name, as we know in modern times as San Pedro cactus. This plant can grow 1-2 feet per year and is known for its high alkaloid content. San Pedro has been used in shamanic traditions and cultures for 1000s of years as a tool for healing.
