Learning human proportions

Hello,

I wanted to learn drawing characters so I’m studying human bodies. I tried watching tutorials but I could never get proper results. Things changed when I took a step back and started learning only about proportions.

So I started to watch tutorials about proportions specifically, but the feedback I got was that the puppets I drew were “too broad” and “too bulky”. So I started to study from real references and as it turns out the models I’ve encountered have 8,5 heads and not 8. So I made a Krita template that should in theory help me study bodies.

I’m sticking to simple poses for now, where I can see the body up front. And I have no idea if this is working or the right way to go. And if the proportions are correct.

What do you people think about the method and the results?

Regarding methods, I think that people ultimately should do what works for them. I think anatomy is better taught by going in-depth, and then abstracting away shapes, and not the other way around, but that is my method that may not work well for others.
