Beauty Review: After 6 months of gel nails this €11 buy has restored my brittle nails

Gel nails are still the fastest way to get a chip-free manicure that only needs replacing every other week, two, if you're lucky.

Like regular polish, it's a different story on your toes as the nails there grow at a glacial pace, and a gel pedicure lasts a solid two to three weeks,

Not so the fingernails, if you are a normal varnish fan you really have to prepare for touch-ups and repaint nights every few days.

So it's obvious why lots of people, (myself included), opt for the at-home gel nails kits and colours. But, that leads to one thing for pretty much everyone - brittle nails.

Gel Nails Damage

I can't say I swear by gel nails, probably like most people I go through phases thinking they're the greatest thing, and then other times I just skip them.

What I will say though is this, if you are a big fan I would take a hair and nails supplement to keep them in good health.

But, it's this time of year that I think about gel nails solely because it's coming to the end of summer and having a chip-free manicure for two weeks is really very appealing. And when I do go through the process a few times, I take a break and this is all I use instead and it's why I thought it worthy of a beauty review.

Like most polish fans, I like to have something on my nails, going bare is just a step too far for me. Even if it's a nude or pale pink I need to have something on.

When I first started using Essie's TLC nail polishes it was just out of curiosity to see how they would hold up against regular polish. The TLC stands for Treat, Love, Colour and they are a treatment polish that actually strengthens the nails while you wear it.

There are six neutral and very wearable shades, and they are infused with collagen and plant extracts to boost nail health and banish brittleness. One coat gives a sheer colour, but two look like regular nail varnish. It's all I'll use between having gel nails a couple of times on the trot. They cost around €10.45 - €10.99 depending on where you buy them. I think they are a godsend though for stronger nails and zero splitting.
