New ‘The Grudge’ Curse Revealed in Exclusive Featurette? [Video]

While many Bloody Disgusting readers may have grown up alongside the J-horror craze and the several Ju-On/Grudge films, our younger readers may not know the story behind the franchise’s haunts: Kayako and Toshio.

“When someone dies in the grip of a terrible rage, they leave behind this grudge, this unanswered desire for vengeance and violence,” Producer Sam Raimi explains in this exclusive The Grudge featurette that features some previously released footage.

“This grudge can spread anywhere and everywhere,” adds Nicolas Pesce, who directed the newest installment.

In the previous featurette that shared similar interview bits, co-star Demian Bichir (The Nun) teased the possible introduction of a brand new cursed entity.

“This is a completely different entity, charged with its own personality and its own terror,” Bichir had said.

In our exclusive featurette below, we catch a glimpse at one of the haunts scaring Mandy star Andrea Riseborough, a detective investigating a serious of suspicious deaths all stemming from one house.

This is the explanation of the ghost that was provided to Bloody: “A manifestation of the grudge; once you’ve entered the house, the curse spreads and can take a variety of forms and consequences.

Sam Raimi‘s latest production also features horror veteran Lin Shaye (Insidious) who exclaims, “This is a horror film. This is real horror.”

While we know that Junko Bailey plays Kayako in the next Grudge, we have no idea who this alleged new spirit is, who plays it, and how many there are. I guess we’ll find out on January 3, 2020.

The filmmakers behind Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey are expanding their public domain horror universe with a handful of upcoming “Poohniverse” movies, including Bambi: The ReckoningPinocchio: Unstrung, and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.

Variety has scored the first image from Neverland Nightmare, seen above.

The website details, “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare follows Wendy Darling as she strikes out in an attempt to rescue her brother Michael from ‘the clutches of the evil Peter Pan.’ Along the way she meets Tinkerbell, who in this twisted version of the story will be seen taking heroine, convinced that it’s pixie dust.”

Scott Jeffrey will direct Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, expected Halloween 2024.

Jeffrey tells us, “I am taking inspiration from French cinema while in prep for this movie. The film will be incredibly tense. I would say it’s a mesh between Switchblade Romance and The Black Phone with our own spin on it. It is a nasty, violent and incredibly dark movie.”

Megan Placito has joined the cast as Wendy Darling, Kit Green is Tinkerbell, Peter DeSouza-Feighoney (The Pope’s Exorcist) is Michael Darling and Charity Kase (RuPaul Drag Race) is James. Martin Portlock will be playing the twisted version of Peter Pan.

Created by J.M. Barrie way back in 1902, the character of Peter Pan – like Winnie the Pooh – is in the public domain, even if the iconic Disney iteration of the character is very much not.
