General Information

COMMON NAMES: Crimson Morning-glory

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Africa or Asia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Weed, Ornamental flowers; Weed - moderate

KEY FEATURES: Low-climbing woody vine, to 5m. LEAVES heart-shaped to wide-ovate, 25cm long, margins wo. lobes or teeth, lower surface with minute black hairs; stalks 5-15cm. FLOWERS 1-4; corolla funnel-like, 10cm long, 10cmØ, red-purple with darker centre; sepals round, 2cm in flower. FRUIT enclosed in enlarged sepals (5cm), globose, 3cmØ; seeds 1-4, 1cm long, with minute hairs.
