Rivea corymbosa, also known as Ololiuqui, is a large, woody, perennial creeper vine that has thin heart-shaped leaves and white funnel-shaped flowers. The plant is thought to be indigenous to Mexico, but it is also very commonplace in Cuba, as well as on other islands of the West Indies and along the North American Gulf Coast. It also appears in Central America and in the Amazon basin of southern Columbia. The plant requires a tropical climate to thrive and needs to be well watered. It will not endure any frost.

  • Rivea corymbosa is best propagated from seed. Soak the seeds in spring water for 24 hours. Then gently press the seeds into the surface of quality Seed Raising Mix inside a humidity dome. The seeds need light to germinate so make sure they aren’t buried under the surface. Use a spray bottle to add a small amount of moisture and the seeds will begin to sprout in approx 14 days time. Transplant once they reach 5cm tall. In Australia, for optimum growth, the seedlings are best planted outdoors during September, October and November. Requires a trellis for the vine to grow upon.
