Characteristics of Pogostemon Stellatus "Octopus"
When the right conditions are provided, the stems can develop a stunning reddish or purple coloration, adding a vibrant touch to a planted aquarium design.
The proper growth of Pogostemon stellatus "Octopus” requires some attention. Medium to high light is needed as leaves on the undersides will shed without adequate lighting or if shaded. With higher light, the addition of carbon dioxide is essential, as well as the proper fertilization with macronutrients and micronutrients. Without these, the tips of growing stems tend to stunt, growing small, curly leaves that are followed by the cessation of further growth.
The "broad blade" of Pogostemon stellatus "OctopusCan sometimes be confused with the similar spiral variant of Limnophila Aromatic. These can be distinguished by purple nodes (where the leaves emerge from the stem) Pogostemon stellatus "Octopus” has been readily available in recent years, at aquatic plant nurseries across Europe.
