It’s not easy to steal the spotlight from the famously stylish Tilda Swinton, but her 21-year-old daughter easily shared it Tuesday at the Berlin Film Festival.
Honor Swinton Byrne joined her mother in an appearance to promote their movie “The Souvenir,” in which they play daughter and mother.
Swinton, 58, was turned out in a vaguely military outfit of tight jacket and wide-leg pants. Byrne wore distressed jeans and a hooded pullover. They had the same shoes, though, metallic gold booties, and the same pink lipstick.
“The Souvenir,” directed by Joanna Hogg, follows the relationship of a film student (Byrne) in the 1980s and a charismatic but destructive man (Tom Burke). It premiered last month at the Sundance Film Festival. A sequel, co-starring Robert Pattinson, is already in the works.
Byrne’s acting debut, 10 years ago, also came in a movie with her mother: She played the young version of her mother’s character in “I Am Love.”
Byrne and her twin brother, Xavier, are Swinton’s children with Scottish playwright John Byrne. The couple’s 15-year relationship ended around 2005.
