Hello everyone! When we talk about electricity we usually think of electric eels. Electricity in fish is used in many ways. The species we are presenting to you today uses it for communication and orientation, isn't that fascinating! Communicating via electrical impulses. Marcusenius mento is a Mormyridae, very discreet and will certainly attract your interest. #environnement #Fish

Hello everyone, Today we're back in the fascinating world of herpetology with the all-round champion of the amphibians. The one that sends molluscs, fish, crustaceans, small mammals and other amphibians to the mat to survive... You guessed it, we're talking about the frog 🐸 of all frogs... The Goliath frog. The Goliath frog, from its scientific name (at least the species in pictures) Conraua goliath, is an Amphibian in the Conrauidae family. Growing up to 300cm and weighing over 03kg, it is very common in the Sanaga basin. A nocturnal hunter, its population is declining due to excessive consumption and illegal trade. Currently classified as an endangered species. May its distress call to you. #SEEB #FAO #AU_IBAR #ENSAHV #frog #MINFOF

Hello everyone, Today, in the great world of fish in the Sanaga watershed, I'm going to tell you about a Mochokidae. It has the beautiful name of Chiloglanis sanagaensis. Etymologically, Chiloglanis comes from the Greek cheilos meaning lip and glanis for fish. It therefore translates as a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook 😨😨😨😰😰😰 that's some serious nonsense! It's a benthopelagic fish that lives by clinging to rocks in fast-flowing areas. Its suction-cup mouth acts as a natural adhesive, preventing it from being swept away by the current. Very small in size (4.3 cm for adults, although slightly larger specimens have been caught), it is discreet and far from the usual catch of anglers. Have you ever seen this fish? #SEEB #FAO #AU_IBAR #ENSAHV #FISH237 #FISH #MINFOF #UICN

Hello everyone, I usually present you with some of the fish I have observed during my field trips. But are fish the only aquatic animals rescued in the field? Of course not! To make up for this injustice 😭 today we're going to look at herpetology. The species I'm going to introduce you to has a deep affection for the aquatic environment. In fact, it's an infatuation. It is a species of the Colubridae family. The star of the day is Grayia ornata, which we found in the DJA catchment area. Its diet is essentially piscivorous, its preferred prey being catfish (Pauwels et al. 2000Pauwels et al. , 2002). It is very common in this environment, with motifs worthy of a large designer, and deserves our full attention ⚠ #SEEB #FAO #UICN #CAMEROON #WILDLIFE

On 19 January this year, we held a workshop with the various stakeholders to restore the various studies, notably on ichthyofauna, potential compensation sites and the socio-economics of fishing activities for the future Kikot-Mbébe dam. The workshop gave rise to some very constructive discussions, which are essential for the future management of the reservoir. Hello everyone, Did you know that fish also take the weekend off? Before that happens this week, I wanted to introduce you to an individual that you will rarely see. A dwarf species, it belongs to the elephant fish family (#Mormyridae). Living in the waters of the Nyong basin in Cameroon, its small size and colour make it invisible to the human eye. The #Paramormyrops curvifrons has now added a giant fin to the ichthyological world of large fish. Do you know this species? #SEEB #UICN #AUIBAR #FAO #FISH237

Hello everyone! Today we're diving back into the fascinating world of the aquatic environment. Ecology enthusiasts will know that ichthyology is essential to understanding all the interactions that take place there. Today's star attraction is the DJA river catchment. It's a Cichlidae, more specifically the Parananochromis caudifasciatus. Its dress (I'm not talking about clothing 😅) allows it to blend in with the brown water it is swimming in. A specialist of wooded waterways, it is a monogamous breeder. Currently not assessed by CITES and on the IUCN list of Least Concern (LC). This is a species that deserves a documentary break. #UICN #FAO #SEEB #WWF #AUIBAR

Usually, we go for a walk in the catchment area of the Sanaga river. How about a change for once 😁. We're now in the Dja river watershed. Today we introduce you to one of the soldiers of this basin the Synodontis batesii. This is a species of the Mochokidae family. It goes by several local names, each more original than the last: military fish, kokoro, moan Satan... This is because its head is covered by a hardened cephalic cap and because its three spines (two pectoral and one dorsal) cause excruciating pain when you are stung. Mainly benthic, it is of minor concern according to the IUCN classification. #IUCN #WCS #FAO #FISH #WWF #CAMEROON
