This mix of Red Bee and Black Bee is wonderful - black-white and red-white bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni) in all possible pattern variations offer a great sight in the aquarium. These bee shrimp show different patterns on white background - stripes or determined arranged dots. The females are slightly more bulbous than the slender males. Female bee shrimp grow to a total length of 3 to 3.5 inches, while males remain slightly smaller.
The Red Bee and the Black Bee are dwarf shrimp high breeding variants, which were bred out of the black-brown-white wild bee shr imp by selective breeding selection. Originally, the bee shrimp originated from small streams near Hong Kong. Red and Black Bees were first selectively bred further in Japan and refined in pattern as well as color density. If you keep the red and black bee shrimp in a mix, dark brown brown s can appear in the offspring in addition to Red and Black Bees.
Like all breeding forms of the bee shrimp Caridina logemanni from southern China, Red Bee and Black Bee tend to require somewhat cooler, slightly acidic, soft water and as little water pollution as possible in the aquarium. Red Bee and Black Bee dwarf shrimp are soft water shrimp and do not like hard or even medium hard tap water. The aquarium water should have as low a carbonate hardness as possible. Ideally you keep these great breeding forms of the bee shrimp Caridina logemanni in osmosis water, which you remineralize with mineral salt for bee shrimp.
In addition, active Soil for shrimp has proven to be effective - the buffer function keeps the water values in a soft range, which is ideal for keeping bee shrimp in the aquarium. Although you can also keep these Red Bee and Black Bee dwarf shrimp in an aquarium with neutral aquarium gravel or non-hardening sand, an aquarium with Soil is more stable thanks to the natural buffer function for bee shrimp.
Red Bees and Black Bees you can socialize in sufficiently large aquariums with peaceful small soft water fish such as Boraras. The soft water in the bee shrimp aquarium is often too low in minerals for the common aquarium snails. Glossy worms are better suited as a cleanup troop. However, in a community aqu arium with fish, Red Bee and Black Bee Dwarf Shrimp do not breed so well. Therefore, we recommend a species tank, i.e. a shrimp-only aquarium, for selective breeding. A socialization of Red Bee and Black Bee shrimp with crayfish and dwarf crabs, predatory snails, small to large crabs and mussels is not recommended. Partly the demands on the water are too different, partly the mentioned animals are predatory and would eat the shrimp.
Red Bee and Black Bee Dwarf Shrimp look especially beautiful in planted aquariums. As initial stocking we recommend a group of at least 10 Red Bee and Black Bee Caridina Dwarf Shrimp.
As omnivores, Red Bee and Black Bee Dwarf Shrimp are easy to feed: they love brown autumn leaves as permanent food in the aquarium and otherwise they like a predominantly vegetable diet. Our NatureHolic Mainfeed is well suited for Caridina logemanni. Once or twice a week you should feed your Red Bee and Black Bee dwarf shrimp specifically with a protein food like NatureHolic Proteinfeed for shrimp, so they can meet their protein requirements.
For Red Bee and Black Bee Caridina shrimp, a water change of 10 to 30% per week has proven to be effective. You don't need an aquarium heater for keeping bee shrimp, but for the hot summer months an aquarium cooling can be useful. Temperatures permanently above 25 °C are not well tolerated by these pretty bee shrimps.
If kept under good conditions, bee shrimp like the Red Bee and Black Bee will reproduce quite nicely in the aquarium. The females carry 20 to 40 eggs under their abdomen until the hatching of the young after three to four weeks. Newly hatched baby bee shrimp are quite sedentary, so feeding a good dust food has proven effective during this time. It spreads throughout the aquarium so that all baby shrimp get something.
A socialization of Red Bees and Black Bees with other color varieties of the bee shrimp, with Taiwan Bees, with Caridina cantonensis, Caridina mariae (tiger shrimp) or other soft water shrimp is possible and quite interesting from a breeding point of view, because in these matings hybrids occur, which can show interesting new patterns and colors.
