from over 3,000 reviews "The Golden Tench (Tinca tinca) is the red-gold form of the Green Tench, which is native to Europe. This fish species is well suited for keeping in the garden pond. The gold tench is a carp fish and lives mostly nocturnal and more oriented to the bottom of the water, where it likes to search for food in the mud. Goldschleien rarely become hand-tame with food. The pond fish grow rather slowly. They grow from 20 to about 60 cm in length. The color of the gold tench is golden red to brown-yellow. Tench are considered good food fish and are popular with sport anglers.
Gold tench are useful pond fish that like to pluck pesky algae and eat pesky water snails. In a large pond, Goldschleien do not necessarily need to be fed, where they will find enough small animals and plant debris in the pond mud. If the food is not enough, the tench as carp fish can be well fed with goldfish food.
Tench are native to our country and can overwinter in the pond if it is deep enough. From a depth of about 1-1.3 m or more, the water does not freeze to the bottom, so the gold tench can overwinter in peace at the bottom of the pond. It is important that the water surface does not freeze completely because of the oxygen exchange, an ice free holder does a good job here.
The garden pond for Goldschleien should be located in partial shade and must be sufficiently large, it should hold 1000 liters per fish. Goldschleien should be kept in shoals, 5-10 specimens are recommended. The Goldschleie is very suitable for socialization with Koi, provided of course that the pond is large enough.
Goldschleien need relatively good water. If the water quality is not good, Goldschleien tend to become sluggish, the animals then remain quite small. In this case, a suitable pond filter should be put into operation. Gold tench tend not to nibble on aquatic plants, so you can plant the pond with Tinca tinca to your heart's content - which is very beneficial for the water quality.
Tench also reproduce quite well in the garden pond. They lay up to 300,000 sticky eggs on water plants. Again, the golden tench benefit from well-planted pond areas .
