The south American Endler Guppy, also called Poecilia wingi, was determined to be a separate species in 2005 and is so closely related to the guppy in purely genetic terms that they can even produce fertile hybrids. Nevertheless, both species differ in appearance and behavior. The pretty El Tigre is an impressive Breeding variant of the wild form.
Here you get a pure Male groupthe matching Endler females can also be found in the store.
Endler Guppies grow to just 2 cm in size, the females however reach up to 4 cm, which is why you can distinguish them optically quite well. Also, the females are not quite as colorful and are rather mousy. The breeding of these livebearers is relatively easy, because they are constantly courting and give birth every 4-6 weeks. In contrast to the normal Aquarienguppy their offspring is numerically however rather somewhat smaller and remains with 10-25 boys. Also Endler do not pursue their young as actively as their relatives. With Artemia nauplii and a rearing food like our YoungFeed you can raise the young well. If you want to prevent breeding, you can also keep the El Tigre in a pure male group. However, it can always happen that even in an all-female group young appear from time to time, because these, once fertilized, can store the sperm for a while.
You can keep Endler Guppies from 60 liters well. Because they are very sociable, you should pay attention to the size of their group and keep them with at least 5 mates, so that they do not become lonely. The Socialization is also possible with other livebearers. Corydoras are also suitable for this purpose, Tetras, Danios, Loricariid catfish but also bigger shrimps like the Amano shrimp or Fan shrimp. With well reproducing dwarf shrimp species like the Neocaridina they get along well. However, you should better keep away from crayfish, because the El Tigre sleeps on the bottom.
The omnivore can be fed in the aquarium super with usual granulated food, dry food and flake food for omnivorous ornamental fish. Different kinds of live and frozen food like Tubifex, various Mosquito larvaebut also Daphniagrindalworms or Artemia round off his menu. Since guppies also tug at algae, you can spoil them now and then with soaked zucchini chips, pumpkin chips and algae leaves.
Our food recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed has been tailored to the needs of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the viviparous from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: When keeping invertebrates we recommend the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
