Our Red Devil angelfish are particularly beautiful breeding variants of the species Pterophyllum scalare. Sailfin or angelfish belong to the cichlids or cichlids from South America. Red Devil angelfish are characterized by a wonderful orange-red base color with a black pattern.
Angelfish have a tradition of over a hundred years in aquaristics. Originally, these beautiful sailfin fish come from the inlet of the Rio Negro and the Amazon basin, where they have their natural biotopes in calm water zones with black water, where they often stay in the branches of trees that have fallen into the water.
The Red Devil Angelfish reaches an impressive fin height of about 26 cm and a body length of just under 15 cm. Angelfish are very social, especially when young, and should therefore only be kept in a group. At least 5 of these beautiful angelfish should be kept - feel free to mix colors and patterns. Angelfish need an aquarium with at least 60 cm height and 300 liters capacity or more because of their large fin span. These great colored aquarium fish can live 8-10 years and grow fast if kept well. Angelfish reach sexual maturity at a little under half a year old.
However, it is not possible to distinguish the sexes well in the angelfish - although some males get a beefy forehead, there are also females with a bull forehead. When kept in groups, harmonizing pairs will find each other on their own. When angelfish are ready to mate, the pair begins cleaning the spawning substrate as a prelude to courtship. The female spawns in long rows, then the male fertilizes her. Both partners take care of the brood. In the community aquarium, breeding success with angelfish is usually not super, so if you have breeding ambitions, you should move the clutch and parents to a rearing aquarium.
Angelfish interact vividly in a group. To avoid stress, they need many hiding places as well as sufficient free swimming space in their aquarium. Branching branches, finely structured aquarium roots and stones are well suited. You can run the angelfish aquarium as a plantless blackwater aqu arium or plant it. Angelfish like to use the large leaves of Echinodorus as spawning substrate and love to hide in clumps of plants or fine branches.
The Red Devil Angelfish needs clean water and a soft to medium hard water hardness and a pH between 6.0-7.5. The addition of alder cones, sea almond leaves or liquid humic substances is good for angelfish .
South American armored catfish and sucker catfish as well as larger tetras are suitable as by-fish in the angelfish aquarium. Angelfish belong to the cichlids and live predatorily. They can prey on shrimps and also smaller fish. The stocking of your South America aquarium with sailfin should not nibble fins. The beautiful long fins of Red Devil Angelfish are quite sensitive.
NatureHolic Cichlid Granules are formulated to meet the exact needs of carnivores. Red Devil Angelfish also eat flake food and granulated food for omnivorous aquarium fish and love frozen food and live food.
